The Aston Martin Owners Club is giving all NY/CT VCA members a unique opportunity to acquire fundamental performance driving skills and apply them at the Lime Rock Park track. This event is for two types of drivers; for those that have never experienced driving on a track before and for those who are comfortable driving faster, but respect the safety of other cars on the track. There is also a Family Track Tour to take the kids and spouse in your car out on the track and show them the layout at safe, normal speeds.
New drivers will have classroom time with experienced instructors, will have instructors riding with them, and will be held to a maximum speed by a lead instruction car. The track experience is meant to relate the newly gained classroom knowledge with the on-track driving line, braking points and accelerating zones. No passing will be allowed in this session. Because of the controlled speed situation, cars in the instruction group are not subject to the “broom stick” rule. You don’t have to worry about how low the SRT-10 roll bar is or whether your head is above the RT/10 sport bar.
Experienced drivers will be able to run in un-chaperoned groups, of which there will be three for the Aston Martin cars and one just for the VCA members. Cars in these runs groups will be subject to the “broom stick” rule. The Club will have transponders to measure lap times for all cars. Cars may be moved to faster or slower groups in order to prevent “bunching” during the session.
The event is intended to indulge everyone’s passion for his or her automobile, at whatever speed that may be. Given the value of both Vipers and Aston Martins, and the few times we may be able to “open them up,” all are asked to show the appropriate respect for the other participants, their cars, and their safety.
The Aston Martin Club allows riders, so classroom attendees will be able to ride in instructor’s cars and sense the higher speeds that will come with more experience and seat time. The schedule for the day includes two 20-30 minute sessions of run group laps in the morning and 12 laps of “time trials” in the afternoon. During the time trials, only 3-4 cars are on the track, evenly spaced out, and each car will have three runs of four timed laps.
Approximate schedule of the day:
8:00-8:45 sign-in and tech inspection
8:45-9:00 driver’s meeting
9:00-12:00 alternating run groups
12:00-1:00 Family Track Tour
1:00-5:00 Time Trials
