On the passenger side of the car, immediately in front of the firewall, there is a flat horizontal panel with some hoses going into it. Mine is covered with a thin (and tacky) coat of oil. This can't possibly be normal, can it? Does anyone know what it is, and why it covered with sticky oil? I noticed this while I was cleaning the engine compartment, and now it has me worried. Matt

Without a picture:
Hoses to and from the heater coil ??? If that is the right spot, thay would contain antifreeze/water which will leave an oily residue if you had/have a small leak in that area.

Could be one of a dozen things as stated above. Clean it, check to make sure all connections in that area are tight and all hoses are intact.

After you clean it, start the motor up, turn on everything and see if you can see any leaks. While the car is running, wiggle the hoses. If all looks good from there, drive awhile, check things out and just keep an eye on it.

If you find the problem, if one exists, let us know what you found.
