Just curious when you guys are just cruising or putsing around town (not driving aggressively) what rpm do you shift at? i always shift between 1700-2100. To high?

Hard to tell you an exact amount, it varies constantly.

If I'm in traffic then yeah it's probably around 2k, but it's really dictated more by the balance of acceleration and torque at that throttle level (i.e. by feel).

If there's no one in front of me then I'm almost always on it a bit, up to about (speed limit + 10) and then I shift :)

In traffic or out on country roads. On the latter, its nice to get it above 3000....not WOT to 3K, just a nice ramp till it starts to really pull

Exactly. I just love to feel and hear it run up through the revs.:drive:

When putzing around town, I sometimes like to shift at 3-4k RPM so I get to hear the exhaust better. I often won't get out of first until 35 MPH or so. It varies though, especially when it's wet. Other times I'll shift into second super early and then get reminded of the skip shift feature.

Usually shift at 3k until I'm at cruising speed. No skip shift issues that way. :)

does anyone know if the hand held tuner from roe deletes the skip shift? I know it makes the fans kick on sooner

Have only hit the skip shift once in 12 years. It is a non issue the way I shift.

Agree!

Makes me laugh how many spend money on a skip shift delete (like $30 for all the corvettes)... I have a perfect skip-shift delete... it's a size 10.

CAFE standards. Nothing to do with abs/trac control, all about minimum MPG.

Skip shift only happens when you're really dogging it in first (as in not really accelerating much) right? Its certainly annoying but if you know what makes it happen, don't do that!

Yes. I can't remember the exact conditions, but it's something like under X% throttle and under 2,000 or 2,200 RPM or something. I wind up first a little bit and never have problems.

Skip shift????? If you shift out of 1st at 3000 or 4000 rpm, all you see is an annoying little light in the dash!!!

My problem is that I live on an island about 1 mile to the bridge. I have to drive by nice homes so I just want to cool it--shift from 1st around 12-1500 RPM to keep noise and speed down. The skip shift forces me into 4th which bogs everything down. It's a pain to shift to 4th then back to 2nd to accomplish a slow cruise thru the island. I'd jump at a fix but I hear the some or all throw codes after a time---Dave

Skip shift can be eliminated with a tune from a qualified tuner or with a number of after market fixes. It shouldn't force you to 4th regardless unless my Gen II is set up differently than yours. It will lock out 2nd, but you can go to third. Am I missing something here? I tune out the skip shift, but if my memory serves me right, the lock out is only to 2nd gear and it IS a pain in the ass when you're trying to be discreet.

Depends on the gear. I always leave the light ahead of others, not just because it's fun but because they're all a bunch of idiots who should not be allowed to drive or vote and I am the only one that should be operating a motor vehicle on my roads. But I digress. As I go up through the gears approaching the recommended speed limit the rpms come down for each shift. Down so far as I'll cruise along in 6th gear at 1000 rpms if it feels right.
