Your welcome, my neighbors a family of five, took in 11 people, and my sister next door to them is taking in a family. Here is an email from my sister:
I've posted bulletins on several sites offering a room
for Katrina evacuees. No takers yet.
I've donated a car load of food, toys, toiletries and
other items.
I've donated $ too.
I have my chance FINALLY to help someone!!!!!!!
Earlier in the week I noticed my next door neighbor
had 2 cars for LA there. I saw them, but didn't really
SEE them. I was so busy trying to figure out how to
help. Today a 3rd LA car was at their house.
I called Hamilton, the dad of the family and talked to
him. They have 9 people staying there, not including
their family of 5 that lives there. Tonight they are
expecting several more people.
I had a chance to talk with one of the ladies that is
from LA. She has 3 kids, one is 17 and the other 2 are
in their 20's. She is missing one of them. She spends
her day sitting by the phone.
I went to the dollar store here and bought a bunch of
stuff for them. The dollar store here is one of those
fancy schmancy ones!
Next week a few of these family memebers are moving to
an apartment complex about a mile away. They are
waiting for their vouchers for housing to come
through.
These people's belongings would fit in a small
cardboard box if even that.
What am I sending out this e-mail? If anyone lives in
the DFW area and would like to help, it would be
GREAT! Even if you don't live in the DFW area and want
to help, that would be great too! They have no
furniture, no dishes, nothing. Nada.
Tomorrow I'm taking a few of them to WalMart in FW to
redeem their vouchers they received and am going to
get a wishlist together for them. My best friend and
her mother are waiting for that list to help. If
anyone is interested in helping, please let me know.
Again, these people are moving into an apartment with
nothing. Not a stick of furniture and barely enough
clothes to last a week.
If you can't help, that's ok. Just please send
positive thoughts this direction that this family can
rebuild their lives.
Love - Kristie
