Throttle Body Spacer Plates?

I did a quick search and did not find anything on throttle body spacer plates. Spacer plates are sold in performance catalogs, i.e., Summit Racing for V-8 applications. It is claimed that throttle body spacers improve plenum volume and air velocity for mild horsepower and torque gains.

Anyone know of any applications for the Viper? It would seem that aside from the throttle cable(s) needing modification brackets or adjustment, this would be an easy add on if gains in HP and torque were realized. Any thoughts on this?:dunno:

On a conventional intake, the spacers change all kinds of dynamics for the air that enters the manifold and has to turn almost immediately.

Viper intakes though are just a straight shot.

A V-8 manifold and carburetor - adding a spacer plate would change the signal strength at the venturis. (at least NASCAR thinks so, which is why they limit the spacer height.)

Doesn't matter with a fuel injected engine...

MoPar actually has a part number for them, 308 stainless, sold as a HP RESTRICTOR for old SCCA T-1 rules!

The throttle spacer plates advertised in Summit Racing and elsewhere for newer model throttle body intakes, i.e., corvettes and Ford V8's with throttle body applications similar to the Viper. The throttle bodies face forward just like the Viper. It would seem that the same gains in HP and torque should apply to a V-10 application as well.:dunno:

The performance claims are based on spinning the air two feet ahead of the combustion chamber, speeding up the air (Bernoulli effect, which is really a restriction), allowing more air (after the throttle plate?) or a combination of these. It's interesting that some purposely "reduce turbulence" while others "increase mixing" which seems very contradictory. I think they are all poop from male cattle.
