Fascia to Hood Adjustment...yes I searched.

I did a search...but what I'm finding isn't making sense. When my 2000 was new, the hood-fascia gap behind the headlights directly in front of the wheels was the same on both sides. Now, the driver's side is substantially wider...in fact the double the distance on the passenger side. The...

    1996 RT Oil Filter Removal

I searched...and found little about the issue. Today, while changing the oil in the '96 RT, I had a heck of a time getting the filter out of the car. I had the car on the 4 post and jacked it up high enough to let the RF wheel drop...but could not get the filter out over the lower control arm...

    1992-96 RT Hoodpads?

Well, even after comparing them from my 2000 GTS to my '96 RT....and thinking the hood pads are the same...they're not. Even the currently available pad says it fits 1992-2002 which is #048480204AC. According to my old parts book, # 5245781 is supposed to be the correct part...but supercedes to...

Really Felt For a Guy in a silver Gen 3 Today...

..so we're out running some errands today and the storm that's supposed to drop rain...then snow late tonight arrives early. We come out of the store and it's sleeting, with a couple inches already on the ground, coating the cars, etc. I've got the Lincoln so it's no big deal. Anyhow, we turn...

    Tire Rack & Michelins

It's a loooong story, but to cut to the quick.... I needed a set of Michelins for my 96 RT. I spoke with Jon about this, and he discussed the pros and cons of the different brands available. I wound up with PS2s. It was a trade deal of sorts that worked out great. Jon said the tires would be...

Word To The Wise with Those Inner Fender Thumbscrews

Tonight I decided I'd aim the headlights on the '96 RT. What I call the thumbscrews are the plastic big headed "bolts" that retain that forward inner fender to the fender liner. On my car...and just about every other '92-'02 I have seen....the "handle" part of the screw is parallel to the...

    Reverse Lock-Out Issue

I got a ’96 RT about a month ago and have twice lightly “grinded” what I think was reverse. (I also have a 2000 GTS I bough new, so it is possible it was boneheaded shifting with the clutch engagement being so different from the other) Tonight, I had the console out to put a short throw...

Still Need to Know What Kind Of Paint Is On A 2000 From The Factory`

Hi all...I posted in October trying to find out what brand paint was used on the 2000s. I got one response that said "Sikkens", and that was what was on my '96 too. I did contact the Wizard, who recommended Sherwin Williams. I need to get an exact match for a tiny touch-up on my GTS. We...

What Brand Of Paint On 2000 Vipers?

I know my '96 original paint was Sikkens. Does anyone know if that continued into 2000 or if a different brand was used? Thanks!! (My '96 needed a repair, and PPG just would not match. Turned out that Sikkens used a different metallic flake. Once we found out it was Sikkens, a perfect match...

Using Ford Parts Is One Thing.....

......using GM parts is just so wrong! The plumber was at our house this morning, and left the side door open on his Chevy workvan. Low and behold, there is the same door striker as on my 2000 GTS! You guys know the part I mean, the two pronged piece in our door jambs that retains the door...

What Battery for a 2000 GTS?

Since my battery is going on 5 years old, I figure I should get a new one before I have problems. My local auto parts shop sells Interstate and tell me a MT78 is the right one. I'd love to go to an Optima, but it doesn't seem that they make a side terminal only battery. Ideas or thoughts?

    Are My Headlights Flickering?

It seems that I have been driving the Viper more at night lately, and again tonight I noticed (I think) that the headlights "flicker" every now and again. They don't go off...they just seem to "blink". It's not all the time, and I don't think it is bump related. I'm wondering if it has...

A Reminder Should You Have Something Not Working In A Door....

The weather was great this weekend in SE PA and a perfect opportunity to use the GTS. I got to my destination, but when I pulled the inside door handle, the door did not open. I used the emergency release. When I returned home, I removed the finish panel by the door on the outside(the body...

HVAC One Way Check Valve Issue?

While driving today with the A/C on, in 6th, I accelerated to pass some other traffic without downshifting. This meant that the gas pedal was fairly well depressed. I noticed that the A/C stopped blowing and the defrosters came on...then all went back to normal when the pedal was in cruising...

How Cold Should The A/C Be?

First hot day of the here near Philly, and I drove the GTS to work. It seems to take entirely too long to cool down the car inside. I have a gauge in the center vent but have not driven far enough to get a reading. I also noticed a similar problem in my 02 GT Mustang yesterday. I am told by my...

    Correct Engine Running Temperature?

I remember much talk about this in the past, yet cannot remember exactly what the "right" answer is. Where should the Temp gauge read on my 2000 GTS? (If memory serves me, the manual says anyplace but in the red is okay.) It was around 75 degrees tonight, and while cruising the gauge seemed...

    Thank You, Chuck Tator!

Those who know me, know that I am more than a little particular about my cars, so I was very concerned about where to take my 2000 GTS for the 999 recall service. After hearing so many good things about Tator's, I made an appointment, and left the car with him on 12/7. Chuck even allowed me to...

Shelf Life of Silicone Brake Fluid?

Maybe off-topic, maybe not. In my current restoration project, I want to go to silicone brake fluid, as I have in all my older cars. I can get a heck of a deal on some older, still sealed fluid, but am concerned about the age. Anyone know how long this stuff is good in a sealed container..or...

    2001 wheels...clearcoated?

Scott, to answer your question, yes, your wheels are clearcoated. They are polished, then clearcoated so that they do not tarnish or corrode. Treat them as you would the paint on the rest of your car. Avoid abrasives and metal polishes.

    Radio Problem...Factory System

Hi all. Today, the radio in my GTS will not work correctly and I am wondering if there is a "reset" button on it like many aftermarket systems. When I press the "Mode" button to adjust the treble, bass, etc...then press the rocker switch on the right side of the radio..it moves the CD to the...

Hood Pad & Removal Tool Questions

I took a hood pad that had been ordered for my '96 GTS (since sold) and painted the logo on it in argent and red. Time to install on my 2000. What is the hot setup on a tool to remove the old clips? I am hoping to not damage the orignal. And, do the clips just break off leaving a piece inside...

    adjusting hood in 93

I assume that by "airbox" you mean the heater box. This is easy to lower. There are two screws on the side facing the exhuast manifold. Once loosened, simply push the box down. I can;t remember or not if I had to remove the actual top part of the box or not. Anyhow, the box should push down far...
