I just traded my 94 RT/10 for a 98 silver GTS. I really like the car, but I have a problem and am looking for a solution. The GTS has what looks like an almost new complete (stock manifold to chrome tips) Corsa stainless steel exhaust system. Big, clean and beautiful. However, my hearing is very sensitive to low frequencies (like sub woofers) and when I drive it I get an ear ache. :( Has anyone else had this problem? :dunno: Does anyone have any ideas??? Can I add some sound deadening somewhere? Thanks. I'll put up some pictures in another thread.

Also, I have a few desireable Gen 1 parts I will list on another thread and in the classifieds in case a VCA person wants them before I put the on eBay. Stay tuned.

Sure it's not a Borla exhaust system instead of the Corsa? Sounds like you are describing the perfect Borla system at 55 mph! If so, change to a Corsa and your hearing will be fine once again.

The Borla has a lot of cruising speed drone whereas the Corsa does not. Add a crossover pipe to the Borla and they sound alot the same but the Borla costs a whole lot less.

You will come to love the GTS George, I know I did. Sure the RT is a great car but the GTS just screams ****!!
I test drove a GTS with Corsa exhaust and there was absolutely NO drone at any speed so you may not have Corsa exhaust installed.

I don't see any identifying marks or logos or any writing whatsoever. So, I guess I don't know what I have... There is a small crossover pipe right before the mufflers. I'm lost on this one.

Everyone is selling or trading, and I cannot even get a nibble on my 94. What am I doing wrong??
George, congrats on the move to the GTS. I hope to do the same very soon, although I am going to look at an F355 tomorrow. If they offer me a decent amount for my RT, which I am sure they won't, I may make the move to the 355.

Thanks. I may or may not have mad a good deal financially, but I think I did ok... Good luck. Just don't give up and settle for a Vette. :omg: Only joking. The new Vettes look very fine and I would probably get one but I have been a Mopar guy since the early 70's and my old Charger ate Vettes for a snack so I guess I always never liked them. I bought my GTS at D&M Mototsports near Chicago. Check out their website maybe they might have something of interest.

That looks like a Corsa to me.

I thought they looked like Corsa's too, but I am no expert. Here's hoping someone has some inside noise deadening ideas for me... or a way I can modifiy these to get rid of the low frequency sound. Too much drone sound cruising. I'll admit I must be a ****, but ear aches ****. My 1970 Super Bee with headers and (sorry... can't remember the mufflers) was much louder than this GTS, but they did not hurt my ears because they did not have that low-end sound. Crap, it's been 3 hours and my ears still hurt. :(

I would start with removing the cats, but if you can't, due to your state laws, put in an X-pipe on the rear section. That might help kill the drone.

Yeah, that's Corsa. I have the same exhaust on my car. FWIW, one of my projects this winter was deadening the interior. I used Second Skin Damplifier (vibration damping mat), closed-cell acoustic foam (decoupler), and mass-loaded vinyl (noise absorber/barrier). It's not tomb-like, but it is significantly quieter than before...

I have Corsa and it looks like that. Drove it for 20 hours a day when I bought it and no problem. One of the loudest Vipers in the club with 10# Roe, headers, no cats, head porting, etc. No drone. Try removing your cats.

Phone Corsa and see what would make their exhaust drone, I think about 2200rpm gets loud in my car, but I drive it at 12-1600rpms so higher revs don't matter.

Explaining Viper things to you
Another vote for Corsa, having had one. And as far as the sound deadening material goes, I did my entire cockpit seating area with Second Skin Damplifier. In 6th gear the drone is obnoxious, but not so to the point I won't use 6th. I have no idea how loud it would be without the sound deadening, as I did my side exhaust & headers & deadening all at once.

The sound deadening was a lot of work to do a really spiffy job. Pulling the entire interior with the GLUED in carpet, and then removing the factory deadening etc was about 2 weeks of evenings.

I think his problem is drone and not loudness. I'd spend the entire day at the dragstrip listening to open headers (including my open headers) and not get an ear ache.

At VOI X I spent some time speaking with the Corsa guy there. Corsa uses sound cancellation technology, not baffles to quiet and change the harmonics of the Viper engine's exhaust. The 'muffler' is amazing as the straight pipe goes directly though the muffler with zero restriction. Only a few small oval holes lead fron the exhaust pipe into the 'muffler' that is built onto the outside of the exhaust pipe. Amazing.

So, being a Gen 2 and rear exit exhaust if you've got my Corsa track exhaust (looks like mine) then even my wife doesn't complain about the noise, much, but she has no pain from her broken ear drum. Normal people love the sound of my car. I have headers and no cats with my Corsa track. I also have exhaust clips of my car (inside and out) on you tube under RTTTTed.

Vman455, we are pretty close to each other (about 1 1/2 hours) so maybe we can meet somewhere and you can show me what you did, or explain in a post where and how you put the material in the car and where you bought it. Any help is really appreciated as I don't like to have an ear ache everytime I drive my car! Thanks to you and all the others that have submitted to this thread. If there are other ideas, I am still open to them.

wonder if you have OEM cats on it ?

i think cats are the main reason for drone. can you pop the sill off and take a pic of the cat ?

I went the cheap route... earplugs! I usually keep some handy.

Pull the side sills just to see what you are dealing with. I had the dreaded drone at one time but think it was when I was catless or using dynomax mufflers in place of the cats...can't recall. But with hi flo cats on nowadays, its perfect.

All the noise is coming from the back so I don't understand how the Cats can affect it? Help me become less ignorant (if that's possible) :lmao:

Doesn't the sound come out of the tips ? In the back.
Changing the cats will change the sound.
