Just wondering how everyone is strapping down there cars on a trailer?

The rear has a built in extension off the frame. It doesn't look thick but i guess it will do. Not sure if the diffuser will be in the way.

The front holes in the frame do not look like they will work because of the carbon fiber cover thats part of the front splitter is in the way?

I was also thinking about using the straps that work over the tire with e-track however I dont think there is room in the wheel well for the ratcheting devise?

Dont want to go through the rims and knock out the alignment any body have some good way to do it?

Thanks,
Steve

Straps straight back in the rear, through the front control arms in the front crossed and padded with towels so you don't hurt the carbon. Ideally you would drive up onto boards attached to the floor to gain some clearance.

The axle strap in the front will pull next to the frame mount so it will not hurt bushings or alignments.

MJ,
Thanks for your reply. The problem in the front is the bottom Carbon cover that covers the underside seems to sit below the frame opening. If I attach a strap there it will pull up on this cover. Moparboy had a cool post where he tied it down over the wheel with a attachment that made it able to ratchet. My only concern from the tire is now the suspension bounces up and down in the trailer and I heard it can over heat the shocks etc.?

The shocks will be fine, if that overheats them you have bigger problems :omg:.

I ment an axle strap around the front control arms. The strap would cross and at that point wrap the straps with towels to prevent damage to the underside of the splitter.

Good luck!

Steve,

I posted this same questions a month or so ago.

Hard to believe that SRT didn't plan for leaving the tie down areas clear when designing a track car that will likely be "trailered" a bunch.

Rear is the same as other SRT's.

In the front, I'll be using the method that Mark described.

Shouldn't be an issue, as he says, the front tie strap will be against the frame and I'll cover the lower strap area with a towel on the strap at each side if I need one.

Thanks guys,
I think I will do e-track and use the system that MoparBoy uses where you use an over the tire strap up front with an idler fitting roller and then the racheting is down out in fron of the car it looks like it works well and MoparBoy swears by it. This will keep it under the front splitter. In the rear I will use the stock mounting holes and cross the straps. Seems like the best way,I hate tieng down a car to the suspention i am always afraid I will pull out the sensitive alighnment.
Thanks again for everyones input

I can find e-track at my local trailer shop-but who sells the wheel tie downs-the whole setup. I checked AW and cannot find it on their website.

That's the set up I am going with up front and maybe just hook the straps to the rear tow tab attached to the frame from the factory. If we cant cross the rear straps because of the rear splitter then I will use the tire straps all the way around to prevent the car from shifting over.

I just contacted Mac's. I guy named Jeramy helped me. Great customer service and very knowledgable. I think they are on par with our other vendors on this site. And they are car guys as well-not just sales people. Their prices seemed fair as well. I ordered a set for our ACR- and will tie down from the rear factory spot. Thanks for the info eveyone.

I've used e-track on the front and rear for two trips from Calgary, Alberta to Infineon and Thunderhill in Northern CA.

They worked beautifully. Just check them when you make your fuel or ***** stops to make sure a tire hasn't gone down allowing the strap to loosen.

sorry for bringing up an old thread, but how bad is it or how come you guys do not like doing it threw the wheels and having a towel behind the straps so they do not get scuffed. I have done this on most other cars and plan to on my Viper with my new trailer...

Never been comfortable with this style of strapping. If a towel ever came off the finish would be wrecked. Also puts alot of strain on the rims in a shearing direction they were never designed to take. Also when it comes to many vehicles, that cannot work due to rim design.

Just my thoughts! :D

Yellow - I agree with Robert .
The other issue that we have found on race cars through the rims was actually pulling the car out of alignment. The alignment is so important to Vipers the last thing you want is to have it set and then through it out of whack from strapping it down

Mopar Boy,
Thanks for helping me find the E track idler rollers. I tried to find them when I bought my enclosed trailer but could not. Ended up putting 2 planks down so I could crawl under to tie my Viper down. Even had the E track down before they told me the roller style I ordered were no longer available.:(
Love those wheels.:2tu: Are thy the new one piece HRE's or do they have hidden bolts? I have 541 HRE's with black centers.

Glad it all worked out for you! Is your track fully working now with idler, straps and all? Really is a great system once all installed.

As for the rims, they are a 3 piece but the bolts are hidden on the back for a cleaner look. :)

I just ordered the idlers, so will wait until they get here before I take out the planks.

They look great. They must be a lot easier to clean as well.:2tu:

Sorry, I missed that.

There are oval holes in the frame in behind the front tires, and also in the rear frame somewhere around the tire area that will accomodate regular R hook straps. Be sure to criss cross the rear ones so the car cannot walk side to side over bumps.

Thanks. I will be sure to criss cross the rears. I do not recall oval holes in the front, is it different on the Gen3/4 vs your Gen 2? I suppose i need to get under there and look!:D

I believe they are similar but you really need to climb down there and feel around. I knew where mine where and it still took me awhile to find the stinking holes!;)

Someone able to confirm the holes are some location as the older cars?
