Nah, not me.....I do 1-2K per year. I was just estimatin' high to make the point for anyone who's whining about gas prices

Actually I enjoy filling up my Viper. Everyone seems to strike up a conversation about the car. Once I had a guy ask to shoot a picture while I am pumping gas. Sure why not.

I didn't realize it, but these coupons are good for one gallon of gas at most retailers. I have seen them around, but until recently never took advantage of them, I never realized their actual worth.
You probably have one or two just lying around somewhere, now is the time to use them before they lose their value, and it's too late!!

I am in the market to buy a Viper 2002 RT, but with these gas prices I am a bit hesitant. I live in MD and the prices for high grade are around 4.50 a gallon. Purchasing the viper is not the problem. Gasoline, maintenance, and insurance will be brutal. I think I might just wait a while and continue driving my Toyota pickup
From my knowledge when I fill up a full tank on the Viper it's about 15-16 gallons total on my 96 GTS. How many gallons does it take to fill up your truck? Wouldn't your pickup cost around the same amount as a Viper or slightly more money to fill up at the pump even if you're not using 91 or 93? I would imagine this would be true if your truck's tank takes more than 16 gallons to fill it up.

Try using your basic 5th grade math skills to calculate exactly how a price increase will affect you.
Me for example:
I plan on driving about 5,000miles this year in the viper @ an average of 15mpg. 5,000 divided by 15 = 333gallons. So an increase of $1per gallon would increase my total gas bill for the Year by 333dollars. Wooptydoo
Now you are also concerned about insurance? Maintenance?
My statefarm insurance for the viper (full coverage real(non-classic/collectors)policy currently only costs me about 50bucks a month. When i first purchased the Viper at 27yrs old it was 60/month. Wooptydoo
Maintenance. Thats the kicker... I have spent over $10,000 in the past 3yrs on basic maintinance & typical viper problems. I dont have any problem with this, but my Wife does

I was filling up the Viper the other day and some old man )older than me at 55), came over and said "I bet that takes a lot of gas.",
I said "not too bad", he ask what kind of mileage I get.
I told him usually around 40 but it I drive real careful I can get 50 mpg. He just went back to his Gran Marquis.

Of any car that get's this type of performance, maintenance is actually very minimal. The Vipers are very reliable. If you delve more into what makes this car tick, it is a very archaic design with 2 valves per cylinder and not very efficient albeit very reliable. I love the fact that it does not sound tuned like a Ferrari but completely raw.
Get it... If you are worried about the maintenance costs, then don't be... If you are worried about gas then don't drive it as much and don't make it you're daily driver. Get yourself a low key 1996 camry or something as you're DD. These cars are at a bargain at the moment but price is on the upswing. They are amazing cars and worth much more than that. You may miss out if finance is an issue as there's no where to go but up from here.

Anyways yeah if your worried about gas prices don't buy a Viper, buy a smart car.... oh wait they get about the same.... I have seen 20+ hwy in my gts, and 100mpg going down hill with the wind at my back clutch pushed in motor turned off... I assume....

Why is it hard to believe? More specifically, I'm in the oil and gas service industry. When the price per bbl goes up, then our customers become more active, either through new wells, or opening existing shut in wells. Because a lot of the times the high prices are somewhat short lived, they need equipment fast which is a strong point for my company and when our utilization goes up, so does our stock which pays dividends. The dividend goes up as well, therefore making me happy.

When the price of oil goes up guess what..... EVERYTHING goes up. I operate a few business (some petroleum based products) and when fuel prices go up, so does the cost of operation. Cost more for me to get around, more for employee's, cost of living, UPS/FedEx jacked up rates, Tire prices, food, etc. Also as fuel prices rise people slow spending. Common sense. Yes they will buy eventually, but we all get a little spend happy when our bank accounts are soaring.
Just saying if your happy when fuel prices go up, then you should just slap your family and friends in the face everytime you see them, or cut them a check for your good fortune and helping you out!
Good luck in life thinking like that buddy. Just because people like you and I can afford it does not mean everyone can, even larger business struggle with that much extra overhead.

toohot4u; If you worry everytime gas prices rise, you'll NEVER buy a car. (any Car). You'll miss out on driving & experiencing what a thrill it is to press down that accelerator pedal & feel the rush. I'll take you for a spin in mine. You'll buy. Dollar for dollar, ya can't beat a Viper.

I not once ever thought about "gas prices" with my car before I bought it and while I own it up until this very moment. It's honestly not even that bad when it comes to gas mileage. A fricken ford explorer is prob worse, let alone any SUV or Truck and look at how many people own one of those... besides, when I pull up to the pump to put gas in my car I don't even think about the cost..to be honest I don't even care.. I can't control gas prices so I'm not gonna bother worrying about it! I'm gonna drive my car regardless anyway, so whatever the gas prices are at, that's what they are at.. I just fill her up with some clean 93 when she's thristy and go on with my life and enjoy my car

I bought my 06 2 months ago and never once thought about how much gas would cost me and I bought a Yukon Denali XL at the same time. To make matters worse, I never once called the insurance company for a quote until both were sitting in my driveway. Insurance for me was about $5.00 more a year than the Lightning I traded in, so that was a relief.
Probably was the wrong thing to say about not buying a viper cause the gas prices are high, but if your were just venting about paying $5 plus a gallon then I'm behind you %110! Gas just went up $0.10 in my area while the actual price of oil per barrel went down $8.00! *** is that? GREED GREED GREED.
All those things that you mentioned was a factor for buying a viper are all the cheapest issues about buying a Viper. The #1 major thing you should be thinking about is the cost of the upgrades that your going to want to have done to it. I good exhaust system upgrade can pay for your gas and insurance for around 6 months, which is a full driving season depending on where you live.
I don't want to be a jack a$$ here, but don't be that person that talks about getting an exotic car if it wasn't for this reason or that reason.
If you want the car and can afford it, then you'll just buy it and nothing like the cost of gas or insurance will stop you from buying it.

Will the Viper be transportation or entertainment?
If transportation, the Viper is probably not a great choice...I'd rather commute in my Honda vs. beat up my Viper.
If entertainment, who cares about the cost of gas?
If you want entertainment and good gas mileage, buy a Lotus Elise. It runs a Toyota 4-cyl engine that should be a pretty cheap car to maintain.
