Obviously all mustangs are not grocery getters but there are no grocery getter vipers. Vipers are extraordinary and mustangs are veryordinary...

have lots of room above the spare tire for groceries in the Viper:lmao:

I've went to the grocery stores MANY times in my viper lol.. However, my weekly groceries only come to about $45-$60 on average. So I don't need a lot of room for everything :2tu:

I guess the base model Mustang could be considered pretty ordinary? Over the past couple of years Ford has really improved the Mustang it's quality and fit and finish. The 2011 Mustang GT at 400 HP is a heck of a car. The 550 HP Shelby GT 500 is a terrific car. The Shelby Mustangs produced from Shelby American are extraordinary cars. Maybe not for everyone but objectively amazing cars. Any 800HP street car built in low volume modified by hand that can be driven as an everyday driver is amazing in itself I think. The fact that Carroll Shelby is still actively involved building Shelby Mustangs all these years later is a story all by itself.

For me one of the attractions to the Viper is it is a modern day Shelby Cobra a wonderful modern interpretation of an iconic car. I think the Viper is already an icon. An American handbuilt pure sports car built for a select group of people that appreciate a pure drivers car. A large displacement naturally aspirated minimalist drivers car. The Viper like the new 800 HP Shelby Mustang is a car intenionally built to appeal to only a few people as opposed to the automotive masses. It just doesn't get any better.

It will be interesting to see how Vipers fare in the future with value and how they fit in automotive history. Will they be the Cobra's of our generation? Last month a 1965 Shelby GT 350 R model Mustang sold for over 800K in a private sale. Boss 429s rountinely sell for 250K. 65 Shelby Mustang street cars sell from 200K to 400K. 1966 Shelby GT 350s sell from 100K to 380K depending on the car. The car most like the Viper the CSX 3000 series Shelby AC 1960s Cobra's sell from 650K to 1.5 million. Will Vipers in 50 years do the same? What about the new modern Shelby's? Who knows?

Fast cars are about excitement and a viper is an adrenaline ****** 's dream. Lots of great cars out there but very few with the shock and awe factor of a viper. World class performance with a heart in your mouth ride.

Again, it is amazing what is going on here. Wow....just wow.

Carol Shelby who was brought on to work on your beloved Viper at the very start is being towed through the mud.

A living legend in the auto business. That his cars are grocery getters.

Plum is right. This place has changed. Big time. Even people who own the Shelby cars have stated how good they are.

In the past, the Viper owners would ask to get Mr. Shelby's signature on their car, their dash, or autograph the plenum in the engine in one of the commemorative editions. Or have Mr. Shelby show up to a Viper event. Cool guy.

Now people do not even know what the commemorative edition is......

He puts a car out with double the horsepower than the original Viper.......and it is pedestrian.

The difference is now people are keenly aware of the "potential" value down the road some of these cars might have, so many are bought and put away for that purpose. Or at least taken MUCH better care of with an eye towards the future. Back then, who knew they would be worth anything and they were thrashed and discarded. Much fewer quality examples are available. There will be a lot more of the potential "collectibles" available in the future which may hold values down.

I'd rather have a 550HP Ford GT than an 800hp Mustang. Different types of cars. Like an H1 Hummer over an Escalade. Vehicles that make no compromises in fulfilling their purpose. Now what is better than that? Pure and simple.

The day my Viper has a sound half as good as my 05 Steeda Mustang, I will like my Viper even more. My Mustang gets a ton of attention from all age groups and many dont even know what it is They dont all look like cookie cutters.

Personally I would rather own my Viper plus Mustang than a Ford GT. I like the idea of walking into the garage and look at two beautiful cars and decide, depending on my mood, which one I want to take for a spin.

Its like having two girlfriends without getting into trouble.

The Mustang has a ton of hertiage and even though I am not crazy about all generations, you have to appreciate that is has survived over the years.

I was going to sell the Mustang when I got the Viper but I am glad I didnt.

Good thing there are as many car choices as opinions out there.

Ok, I'll admit it my daily driver is an 07 Mustang (ok actually a Saleen). But it does have snow tires on it. Like it a lot but it isn't a Viper. Nor is a Viper a Lambo.

Gotta love Ford, and I would enjoy the heck out of that thing!!

With that being said, they keep packing on the HP but it's still a heavy, solid axle, beast without enough rubber. Reminds me of a bodybuilder who never works out his legs, but keeps getting a bigger upper body.

The car lacks balance, the HP side is too overwhelming for the chassis/ suspension side. Hoping the Viper tops it? - It's not even in the same class, as said before.

But if you wanna bang from stoplight to stoplight, this may be your weapon..

Ford should get props from every American. They didn't take any bailout money and have had great success during these tough times. They've done a great job with the Mustang for the past 10 or more years and if they would have put a 500 cid motor in that GT I would have cut off a leg to get one.

Mustangs aren't my kind of car but neither is a Porsche or BMW and I still appreciate those brands.

Keep up the good work Ford.

GM on the other hand...

reading some forums they are doing mid - high 12's stock, thats gonna beat half the vipers on the street at a stoplight

Plum, obviously some folks never driven a Terminator Cobra with a pulley change, otherwise they wouldn't rag on the Mustang so much;)

I bet it looks like every other Mustang from the V6 one to the V8 supercharged ones. I'm just guessing. I share the same issues with the Corvette that I do with the Mustangs, the entry level model looks the same as the expensive model (with the exception of minor body mods).

I am not impressed with the 800hp Shelby. It's a novelty car, and to most folk it would appear just to be another stang.

I have an 06 mustang GT which is way faster than many Vipers in the 1/4. With new rebuild, it has become a trailered car only (no license plate). I am on my 2nd Viper, love it. You do see a mustang at almost every intersection...Ford pumps out 150,000+ of them annually.

Pics are car before latest rebuild

I think this is well said. The analogy to the weightlifter is hilarious!!

I have always looked at the mustang as a heavy straight line fun pony car. I had to check myself and give the Mustang a few more points a couple of months ago in reading the latest numbers.

The new Boss 302 put up better numbers in the Laguna Seca compared to the BMW M3 and the Audi R8!! The Mustang is no longer a red light runner. For the price, it is an impressive performer.

It is a waste of time to compare it to a super-car like the Viper (although it did beat the R8 "super car"). I say all this not to compare it to a viper, but to give the new Mustang it's due credit.

A friend of mine had a boss just like this back in 1978. It was awesome. For $40k the new Boss looks like a winner bu it's no Viper...
