Give me $200k for a car and there's no question in my mind what I'm doing.

Having had a 1000+ HP 5.4L DOHC Ford car, I know how easy it is to make power and still have "like stock" street manners. The car is brutally fast, looks magnificently good, has timeless curves and can do it all. It's American made which does help, and it's just flat out cool. As already stated they hold/appreciate in value and that just isn't normal.

The only thing I enjoy as much as the GTs is this--the 458 is nuts. It is a true supercar. But, I like the styling of the GT probably better and for a 6 year old car the GT compares well with anything out there. I have 10,000 miles on my white, I had 3000 on my blue and only have 900 on my Heritage because that one has gone through the roof.

That being said, there is nothing like a Viper and I love popping the top and driving the Anaconda 2010.

I'm gonna get a black one or a genv.

Love my viper. It's a yellow srt vert. She's wide and low with aggressive styling and a pumping v10.

Honestly I like the v10 better than the sc v8 but the fgt mid engine design makes up for that..

Here's my thing and just try to wrap your mind around this.

A z06 vette looks aggressive and dits 48 inches high. To me this is a big factor in what makes a car look exotic. 48 inches looks low slung and aggressive.

A srt viper sits at 47 inches high and while just a inch on paper when you have them side by side the viper defiantly looks lower and wider aka more exotic just from that inch. Your mallards sit around 46 inches high and the cycle continues..

The fgt sits at just 44 inches high. 44 inches,,,,,,,! That is simply sickening and a prescence that is worth every penny

As far as performance back in 04 in a heads up test the srt actually ran a 11.77 at 123.8 beating the ttys 11.78 at 123.6. A gen3 and fgt nearly mirror each other in performance till around 130 mph were the fgts extra 70 rwhp takes over it's weight disadvantage and the fgt wil start to walk.

A couple of comments. The GT was a celebration the the 100th anniversary of Ford. The theme was "the Pace Car of an Entire Company". Some folks at Ford tell different stories on why it ceased production but the popular one is Govt regs--not sure that is the total reason. But, with just over 4000 made, a lot wrecked and a lot overseas it is highly sought after especially the Heritage. If I had to keep only one car it would be the Heritage pictured here. (even though I don't drive it much). The blue/no stripe is also a favorite of mine.

Gerry thanks for the kind remarks but I am far from a hero. .Shane , however is a big hero.

A lot of Viper guys in our KC club love the Ford GT. It’s an amazing car but I have always argued the Viper is a better car. The Viper is certainly a better performing car. A GEN 4 could beat it in every performance aspect Roadcourse, ¼ mile, etc. Hell a GEN 3 could give it a run for the money. That coupled with the cost to maintain, lack of good tire choice (a problem with the Ford GT) and the $150k price tag make the Ford GT play second fiddle to the Viper IMO.

Now the Ford GT is a better looking car. (And probably one of the best looking cars ever made) I have always loved mid engined cars as well. But as I tell my fellow KC club member’s looks aren’t everything.

No doubt a gen4 vert beats the fgt in every catergary. And yes a gen3 is very very close...but

Just a pulley and tune on a fgt and it goes from stock gen3ish performance of low 120 mph traps to 132 mph in the quarter mile.

So now you have a car that can rival just about any modern day car speed wise while at the same time looking simply amazing.

I think my srt vert can rival a gallardo and look close while the gallardo still has a visual edge. On the other hand the fgt makes a gallardo disapear

I can remember back in the late seventies a guy at a local service station was building a Valkyrie Kit car. Even then the actual GT40 was already a vintage race car. At 17 years old I would drive by once a month or so just to look at that car and imagine what it would be like to get behind the wheel :stick: Not sure whatever happened to that Valkyrie but needless to say decades later when I saw the FGT concept at the NYIAS I was just floored :jawdrop:

I hesitate getting into anything that resembles being negative about a Viper--the car I love perhaps above all others, BUT a GT and Gen 4 are very close and the GT has an amazing top end (look at some of the Texas mile runs) As stated a pulley/tune is quite simple and mine makes it a different car. It is SO easily modded unlike Gen 4 and many do the turbo which makes it insane.

There is also no comparison in handling, and fit and fiinish and that is the way it should be for a car that costs what a GT does. (I have had 3 Gen 4s and 3 GTs)The paint is amazing. 2 of my Gen 4s were not even buffed properly out of the factory. My Viper tech works on my GTs and he is amazed at the degree of quality in the car.

As for tires, there is NOT a tire problem except that Goodyear at one time was quite backed up on the OE tires. Bridgestone makes a far superior tire and they are easy to obtain.

As for "$150,000 car" if you can get one under, say, 8-10,000 miles for 150 buy all you can because they sell at 165--190 and the Heritage is now well north of 200K.


The Gen 5 will hopefully be "the car" and compare well or better than the GT. Right now the GT is a much closer comparison to my 458 than Viper. (and the Viper remains the car of my dreams that continues to intrigue me---It is still hard to imagine a better design than the GTS)

There are alot of great points here. I know I assumed what others had said but the one that sticks out to me which is a valid argument as far as I'm concerned (that I did not know about) was the resale value. I guess I never took into account the rarity or how they keep their value. I have seen several on the road and I certainly looked but at the time I never put them on my wishlist. Then again I have never driven one either so I do not know about the power and handling first hand.

Although it is my humble opinion that the looks of the Ford GT (although I believe it IS a nice looking car) are a steps away from the Audi R8, Lambo's, Ferraris, and depending on my mood alot of Porsches as well. After this thread I have a new found appreciation for the beast.

The Ford GT is just an awesome car in all respects. Fast, powerful, looks very different than most cars and extremely appealing to most, and the fact it was a limited production makes it even more desired. I would love one. Even the Superformance replicas are in your face loud and fast.
