It did not lose fair and square because the driver had no prior track experience with the Viper and alot of track experience with the Vette. Let Probst play with the Viper for a day or two then do the test over again.

Are you serious? So when he ran all those cars at LS alittle while back when the Z06 moped the competition that was not fair as well? Even if he had a week of non stop driving in the Viper, he isnt gonna be 2 sec. faster.

Looks like Chrysler will have to pony up and license the MR shocks from GM for the ACR, just like Ferrari did. Sure would have liked them to put a 2010 ACR on the day they went around. Same driver, same conditions, I bet the 2010 ACR would have pipped the 2013 ZR1. Gen V still needs some sorting out, not sure how the Pirellis change things. Congrats all around to GM and Chrysler for making such awesome vehicles.

Not cancelling my Gen V because I never ordered one in the first place. :p

THey still whined about the interiors! And the way they talked, you'd thinkg the interior of the previous Gens were like sitting in an Iron Maiden. I've driven my Gen 3 100 miles at a stretch, and I'm quite comfortable.

Pretty much my thoughts. While it would have been fun for SRT to beat the ZR1 - who cares beyond marketers at SRT.

I doubt many can drive the car at that level - so it is a moot point. I know I'll never be able to. Hell, most with ZR1's can't either.

Personally, I can't wait for mine to arrive at my door.

I track all my cars. I'm not gonna say that I am a track ace,but I think I push them at a decent time. For me it's like this. If I'm gonna pay over $100k on the car. The new better beat the old(Vette). This is not the case here. Don't know what the problem is. The car defitnetly needs more setting up.Who knows. I already got my gen 4 ACR will just enjoy that,and see what happens next..

This is all pointless. When the ACR comes out it will beat the ZR1 times by over a second.

OK. Let's have a friendly bet. I say that when SRT runs the car at Leguna with a driver familiar with the car that they will retake the record. You seem to believe they will not. So how about a bet of $100.00 payable to the Wounded Warriors? OK?

Some people you will never please

I drive my 99 GTS 250 miles ea way to my fav place during summer, without stopping. I'm 65 and never felt uncomfortable in the car. Who are these people constantly b...ing about Viper seats, LOL?

Oh , why is the GTS Viper's brake 14" when the power is up to 640 and destined for the track ?

Jonny Lieberman @mt_loverman @RalphGilles @Rynomite21 We will take both cars back to Laguna Seca any time SRT likes. The 'Vette's CC brakes paid off.

The car is just fast as the 2009 ZR1 on PS2, and even slower than the Z06.
There's no question that the MPSC are stickier than the Corsas, but even with those tires it won't cut secods at least you practice the whole day at the track, and that wouldn't be fair for a comparasion obviusly
I use to remember when the old GTS have no fear to face almost every car on the planet. Corvette's weren't even close to be fast as the Viper was at the straight line.
I still have the MT magazine when the Viper **** the 993 Turbo, 355, etc at the standing mile. And when it hit 190 mph at the top speed test.

We can't be formed with have just a quick car, we were used to get formed to have one of the fastest.

Listen. I like both cars a lot. Always have. I too wouldve liked the Viper to have performed better on track. It still had amazing performance numbers. I dont think SRT drivers will beat the ZR1 time. If they did, they wouldve posted that while first promoting the car. BTW, I'm not a beating man.

Judging by the majority of comments on the thread and other forums around the Internet I'd say A LOT more than the SRT marketers care about the Viper getting pile drived by the ZR1. For a whole lot of folks and conquest buyers who never had a Viper, it's performance in mags are a selling point. Or at least the mag times would pique their curiosity or not. Why should the leave their older Porsches, Ferraris, ZR1's,ACR's etc for a new Viper that can't beat the old model or the old ZR1. Call them fickle or whatever choice of words you want to call them but what happened at Laguna ain't good for the Viper image etc. A bad set of magazine tests will cause many to look elsewhere that's a fact that you see being played on just on this thread.

I'm hoping they go back with Farbacher in the same red and black car MT used and redeem the Viper. I hope it's just a case of driver being uncomfortable to push the Viper.

Frankly, gotta stand up for my man Winkler , since so little really know about this guy. Given alot of time away from Chrysler, Chris could quite likely lock horns with Randy. Though not a professional , Chris is a National Champion SCCA pilot and is a quiet guy who like Eric Heuschele ( another SCCA National Champ who drove the Gen V over 200 on a very questionable track ) , is very , very well respected by his fellow Engineers at SRT. Salty driver, and likely every bit as fast if not faster in a Viper than Mr. Pobst. One has to wonder a bit if the fact that the new Snake was geared toward ride and safety in varying weather conditions if the new Corsa is even a relatively similar tire to the new PSC. Those in the know are quite aware the new PSC is faster than the old tire and has about 1/2 the tread life. As one selling the new car, the Vipers choice to build an aggressive tire, but to consider some safety features as a better ability to shed water, one has to wonder if that call also slowed down the Snake a bit. Overall a good compromise from all the concerns many had with the ACR and it's weather constrained driveability. Realize many never drive them in the rain, but in many States there is no choice.


Too bad PMUM is not still around, put him in a Erik Messely prepped 2013 and watch him spank Pobst all around Laguna Seca all over again.

If you put a driver into a Viper with big enough balls to drive it way faster than what Pobst did,....

what would the same driver do in the vette?


I think Pobst stated what was needed, a better set of brakes, and some work on the suspension.

I think Pobst's numbers with the old ACR speak for themselves - maybe which is why I see this all as a moot point.

I agree with Bobpantax, someone is going to jump in an SRT and run over the ZR1.

Agree, Aries, I was trying to be polite. Have run against Chris in a couple of venues and he is a fierce competitor. One of those quiet guys that goes from Dr. Jeykll to Mr. Hide when in car-- as in runs off and hides, ha. Winkler does not talk alot , but he proves himself on the track and winning is his focus. Have a picture he autographed for me of his run at Laguna, and it holds an honored place in my home -- the dude is one fast asp driver!!

Sounds like we need to get him into a Gen 5 at Laguna ASAP!!! lol

Although I can't drive very fast on the track (compared to a pro), I am pretty talented around around the Cars and Coffee crowd......hearing comments like "Isn't the ZR1 faster then this new Viper?" and "Doesn't the new Ford Mustang GT500 run a faster quarter mile than the new Viper for like half the money?" would piss me off.

At $150k out the door for a GTS, I want something that is sorted out. The problem is this, once you're at $150k, you have a lot of other options to have fun in.

Bet the 2014 Vipers will be the awesome :eater:

I vote for Tommy Archer to drive the SRT. He used to race Vipers against Randy.

lol, if you don't think tires can make up a 2 second difference. I don't know enough about the new Pirelli's to make an informed comment but tires can make a HUGE differece at the track. Hell a couple of PSI in said tires can make over a second difference.
