I don't know if there is already a thread about this subject but it did get me thinking. I hear some crazy things from people when they see my Viper's and I was wondering what anyone else has heard.

Here is one I remember hearing when I was about 11 years old. (being born in 83 it was early Viper production years):

I remember hearing that insurance costs were higher on the Red and Yellow Vipers because they were more flashy, and more likely to get into a accident. The Dark Green Viper's had a cheaper insurance (which was the reason a local guy purchased his in that color?).

Anyone shed some light on this subject? Any other "Viper myth's"?

I have heard up to 1/3 of all Vipers have been in an accident because they are too dangerous. Anytime I hear stuff like that I say show me the proof.

I do believe I heard the red was more to insure, but that wasn't viper specific. Brighter cars are more likely to get pulled over was the reasoning.

My sober Dutch thought on the matter (born just a year later in 1984)... green Vipers are likely the cheapest because they are good for the enviroment, red Vipers can be expensive because their owners might love their cars so much they constantly want to modify and/or change things (i.o.w. putting love into their cars), yellow Vipers appear to be as cheap as the green ones because of how careful their owners are.

Oddly enough, I heard the opposite many years ago;

Red cars were easier to see in the day time so people were less likely to pull out in front of them resulting in fewer accidents... thus lower premiums. :dunno:

I would like to see these statistics too. Most are within a few thousand miles on the odometer.

i constantly hear that they're str8 line cars and that the reason u dont ever see many of them is because they've mostly been wrecked...true or false?

Now about the color black, in some cases combined with white... those 2 are classified as colors but can (technically speaking) not be seen, this could be the reason why owners of Vipers with 1 or both of them pay more premium than the others.

Other Viper myth's. Maybe. One of the marketing videos about the new Gen V last year stated the Corvette is not who we are going after but rather Ferrari. Hmmmm maybe it IS the ZR1 they should be going after with more positive results and get to the Ferrari later.

FOR YEARS, I've heard the fastest vipers are either red or yellow...

That's the biggest MYTH in the book!

I've been asked moltiple times if my GTS is the year with the V-12. When I tell them none had a V-12 I've even been called a liar!

I have been out with mine on more than one occasion and had guys try to tell me about V-12's and/or V-8's in certain years of Vipers. I had one guy go so far as to tell me he had owned a V-8 Viper. He did admit his interior and engine bay was completely different than mine too. I know what you are thinking but I did not even go there with him. It was funny enough as it was. One really emphatic guy had my wife asking, "they make V-12 vipers"? I just smiled until he walked away.

I've heard the V12 and V8 comments as well. Other than that, mostly people ask me about how hard it is to control and what IS and ISNT in the car (cupholders, AC, radio, yadda). Everyone seems to love the seatbelts on the "wrong" side tho :)
