1997 GTS was running then stopped. Something electrical.

I was using a jump box to start my Viper. Once it started my buddy disconnected the jump box from the start lug under the hood and the car immediately started to stall out, he quickly reconnected the Positive cable back onto the lug and big spark was seen and the car continued to turnoff. All attempts to re-crank via the jump box and a new battery it just cranks and cranks but won't run. I checked the fuses in the box under the hood next to the jump terminal and they are all good. I am hoping we didn't blowup the engine brain box. Has anybody else seen this issue? I have fuel in the tank. Thanks in advance

Anything is possible...but, a battery jump box is generally much less likely to harm the PCM than the real Gen II PCM killer which a battery charger plugged into an A /C power outlet that has a "boost to start" button.

Has this car been in storage ?

When it was running, how long was it at a standstill ?

Is there a check engine light ?

Does the furl pump turn on when key turned on ? If it does, does it turn off on its own ?

As one can see, there are a lot of simple things to consider...way too many to play post tag here.

Feel free to call me if you like.

I drove the car about 45 days ago. I have had a check engine light on for a while. I checked the fuel pump fuses and they seem okay. Not sure how to test the fuel pump relays. I don't hear the fuel pump like I am use to hearing but I thought maybe since I have been screwing with starting it the fuel rail is still pressurized. I was thinking about shooting starting g fluid into the air cleaners and see if it fires off at least for a second then I could determine whether it is fuel or spark. I appreciate your response and if you think of something I should do let me know. You can call me. 904 891-6080. Steve

Pretty much all stories that start like yours end with "Your PCM is toast".

Turn the key on. What does your fuel pump do?

Scan for codes, able to scan?

If the answers are "Fuel Pump does not prime, or "turns on and wont shut off"... PCM.

If you cant scan for codes... PCM.

Check for power and ground on PCM connector C1[black]. Pins 2 [12V Run/Start], 22 [12V Constant], and 31/32 [Ground]

If you have power and ground where you should... PCM.

Controllers are in stock, as always.

Yeah I talked to Dan last night and haven't had a chance to see if the fuel pump runs or stays running constantly. I am headed out of the country for a week and been putting out fires today. Might have to check when I get back. Thanks for the support. Steve

So rather than buy a PCM .... which it almost certainly is .... and have it ready for when you get home, you're going to wait. Makes a lot of sense ... man, I'd hate to be a parts vendor and have to read posts like this, lol

Well, this turned out just about as expected... glad I am not the only one who sees the usual market dynamics and rolls their eye about it.

"I dont have time/out of town/I need to do XYZ first/I need to ask..." immediately after diagnostic are all translatable to "Thanks for the free tech support, but I am going to try to undercut your prices unless I get backed into a corner."

If it wasnt for the sad fact I have heard nearly the same thing from "customers"... I would laugh.

But alas, I can only cry instead!
