Took the car to work today and after an hour in the hot Florida sun, I heard my car alarm going off. I ran out ready to through down, but found that the glue let go on the back window hinges for one of the things that holds the back window up. Dealership wants the car for 1-2 days. Looks like something I can just re-glue myself. Anyone have a recomendation for a glue that'll work well? Anyone have this happen to them?

My buddy has a 97 GTS and was going about 160 when the rear window pupped up. Not at this hatch! One of the front hinges let go. Luckily it didn't fly off.

That happened to me the first week I owned it. Also sitting in the hot sun in NC and I had to drive the car with luggage, back to FL.
Tom Session in Wilmington NC replaced the whole window. I made a lot of call and the consensus was, some glues my hold for a while but not as good as the factories. I didn't want to chances the hatch popping open every other month. I even looked into putting a bolt through the glass but it being tempered was going to be a problem. If you have an extended warranty I think it should cover it. Good luck.

On another thought. Are you going to the Safe MotorSports track day at Moroso this Saturday

Hmmm. Talked to several glass specialist and they all say "Go to your dealer". I have an extended warrenty, but not the full, so I don't think it'll be covered.

Andrew. The safemotorsports day sounds cool. If I can get the car fixed, maybe I'll check it out. Definately going to the 9.11.05 event at Moroso.

Wow, couldn't believe I just saw this thread. Dealership called yesterday after having my car for the last week to change the waterpump (it was on backorder). As they were opening the rear hatch to get my oil and filter out that I brought, the same thing happened - one of the struts fell off/came unglued. I attribute this to the incredible baking qualitites of the Florida heat, humidity and sun. Anyway, they told me they had to order the entire back glass....

What gets me is, how secure are these GTS's? If your car is seating outside and your in a movie or something. The sun unglues your back hatch and now your car is wide open to all the worlds elements and occupants.

Well... Dealership recommend a glass pro who looked at it and says he can fix it. I'm going to let him try. Otherwise, a new back window is $1,100.00 + install. That's $,$$$ out of my full exhaust fund because it's not covered under my warranty :-(

Just smash the window and let your car insurance pay for the new rear glass ;-)

I was lucky enough to have this same issue happen before the 3/36 went away....whole new back glass. :) Cost me the price of a re-tint. :) Old glass is still leaning against the wall in my spare bedroom. :)
