100K, finally

My green '94 RT, bought from Canada in '98 with a metric speedo. At 34,150 KM (21,344 miles) I swapped speedometers and the replacement had 7,056 showing. To reach 100K, I had to get to 100,000-21,344+7,056=85,712 miles. Did it this week, 86,080 showing. Now that I have a 50 mile one-way mile commute, it'll add up faster. It's like vacation before and after work.

Ahhh, 15 years ago I put 50K on a green 95--my first snake and the most miles I have put on 7 Vipers. Brings back fond memories. You always miss the first.

Well, some of that was Canadian fuel, so the average cost was probably higher. The original owner drag raced and then I autocrossed, so that showed up mid-life as two minor transmission repairs. (Is there really such a thing?) The T56 is now a T58 (T56 plus parts from two others.) Used lots of tires, too, but other than that can't say it is high cost of maintenance - especially when you factor in the uh, trips to Mexico, track days, and other daily driver stuff. And the return on investment is pretty good.

Collectively I think we have put around 70,000 miles on ours over the years - loved every single mile!

Way to go Tom, better to use it than queenie it! I'm not far behind you... by about 35K miles! But our gas is shockingly $$ right now, paid $8.35 for good pump grade recently...

Love the green, keep on keeping the oil and brake fluid clean, the cosmetics of a Viper look good any finish (ok, maybe not dolphin!)

To me, it’s not so much the car having 100K miles….any Viper (like any other car) should easily be able to attain that……it’s more about whether the driver has 100K Viper miles under his belt. That would be defined as BIG FUN! We will likely hit that mark this summer. ....Not bad for 6 month seasons which started in 2000. It's kind of a good thing we live where there is winter or we may have made it in just over 5 years and likely be pushing 175- 200K miles this year

I hit 100K just before putting it away last fall. Currently at 104,500. As my daily driver and a 120 mile roundtrip daily commute, it adds up fast. I had a chance to get a job 5 miles from home about a year ago. . . . I looked out at my Viper in the parking lot during the job interview and politely turned down the job offer. God I love this country!

Just to put that into perspective: assume you have a $60/month cable bill and that you've been paying that since you got your Viper in about 1996. By comparison, you have paid over $10,000 in cable fees, vs $17,500 in fuel cost (@ $2.50/gal). As an American driver, you have contributed approximately $1288 to the federal Highway Trust Fund to cover maintenance/expansion of the federal-aid highway system. The federal share is a flat 18.4cents/gallon and has not changed since before your car was new. It is now woefully insufficient to pay for even the maintenance of the system, much less expansion. Motor fuel taxes are not bad, unless you are being branded as an evil gross polluter by virtue of your chosen travel mode. The government is now preparing to exact a new 15 cent/gal "carbon tax" from you, then piss it down an environmental feel-good hole instead of fixing our roads.
