Your approved oil filter is Mopar part number 05037836AB. Figure about 10 quarts but you may be able to get in only 8.5 or so at first. Start engine after filling, shut it off in a short time, recheck oil level hot and cold. REcheck level cold before next couple of starts...correct level as needed. Exercise great care when putting filter on...being sure gasket seats and does not leak or stick out abnormally.

The Viper filter from Chrysler. I thought the older Vipers were 8.5qt and newer engines were 10. I put in 8.5. I also use Mobil 1 0W-40

I use Mobil 1 0w40 as well. My RT/10 ate 10 quarts last time.

No, that WAS the filter...BUT due to a "discovery" made in testing at a lab dedicated to testing automotive oil filters, a small internal change was suggested via proper channels, and the "AB" version appeared. It should be noted that at the time these discussions took place, it was reported back that there were "no known failures" in the field with the "AA" series. I would further add that at least a couple of our earlier (and lesser driven) Vipers still have the "AA" filter in place, though I do plan to swap them out soon.

finally got around to the oil/filter change. looks like 8.5-9 qtrs will take it to the full line. preoiled filter which only takes a glass full amount.
the drain plug looks interesting, it was long. after the threads was a stem of metal. is it magnetic?
