Belanger Headers - Corsa or Belanger Muffler

I ordered a full Belanger System (with cats) for my 2008 SRT-10. Turns out the cats and mufflers are not ready to ship until mid next week. Now this has unfortunately led to me reading more...

So will my wife hate riding with me in the car with the Belanger mufflers to the point that I'll think I should have changed the order to Corsa???

Also wondering if anyone has run with either setup on a track with noise restrictions? I live near Laguna Seca and can only assume I'll run the car in a club event or two in the future. This track has noise restrictions during club events...

Go with your initial gut instinct and stick with the Belangers...you'll have the biggest **** eating grin ever with that exhaust on your Viper. As a passenger in a Belanger-equipped SRT I didn't find exhaust loud at all. I loved it.

Should of ordered the system from The PartsRack. You get everything quickly. Great system though from what I have read.

If you live just down the coast from me near Laguna, you're obviously in the wonderful Peoples Republic of California... How are you going to smog that combo? Or, did I miss something and those headers are CARB certified? If they are CARB certified, one more reason for me to lust after a new ACR...

Had Belanger Headers & Exhaust w/high flow's on my 01 rt/10, absolutely loved it, sounds like a performance car should. I cant wait to get a set for my 08'

My wife hated the sound, but she hates the Viper anyway!!!!! It was not overbearing, I will get them for my 08

We have done dozens of the Belangers and the Belanger/Magnaflow cat backs and a few of the Corsa add ons. I have the Corsa on my car and I can tell you the first time I started it up for my 3 and 6 year olds there were terrified expressions and some crying... felt bad but love it too much to change it out!

The Belangers are a deeper loud and the Corsa is a crisp Trans Am car LOUD, .

You can use the stock cat back along with the headers and our Corsa hookup and I have heard this is a little better than the noise from the MF. FWIW.

Nowadays I want to avoid the headaches I've lived with on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the Autorotor supercharger... Got in way too many altercations with smog shops that wanted to report me as a gross poluter just because of that - and the car ran cleaner than most anything in existence...

The Belangers will run very efficiently but in a cold start test no way. Also the rear 02 sensors will still work so there won't be any codes. Could not guarantee it though.

As far as California and CARB certified, I don't think anyone makes CARB certified headers for the Viper?? I know one smog guy that will usually not investigate this stuff too close if the car passes emissions. Hopefully he stays around!

You guys do have good points! No track and no smog pass, no fun!! I'll have to schedule track days around smog notices and switch to stock every other year! New vehicles don’t require smog inspection for six years if you pay a $24 fee. By then, who knows... But to be honest I sort of forgot about the CARB thing... Been awhile since I've been playing with real toys!

I have a guy here in Cupertino who is pretty good - but he does do a quick check of the exhaust system to make sure the CARB numbers are listed on everything... I think if you leave the heat shields on, shouldn't be a problem with him. PM me if you want to konw who he is.

I've gotten unlucky a few times with the Viper for no good reason - the dumb a$$ smog guy said he had to visually inspect the cats on the car to make sure they were installed and legal. Duh. I told him that, for the $39.95 smog check fee he quoted, if he wants to remove my side sills and guarantee to me that he wasn't going to strip out the screws or cause other damage, he could feel free to do that all-important visual inspection. He declined and referred me to a referree station because he said the 'stock catalytic converters are not visible'. That pissed me off, big time!!! I'm a mellow guy, but I really wanted to strangle him.

I guess you should have called me for the Belanger system. I have 3-5 systems in stock at all times because we install so many. I could have shipped same day complete.

Remember that we do tons of cars and upgrades a year and though we don't claim to have everything in stock we do have the good stuff most of the time. If I don't I won't waste your time I'll just tell you I don't.

PartsRack launched the 2008 Belanger system for Lou with System #0001 and have done several dozen since. The Stainless Corsa costs more, and can be a bit dischordant with the Non-Stainless Belangers. Double, as discussed, the headers and Corsa are ready to go, but a few short days wait is worthwile on the Belanger cat-back chosen. We are happy to swap the order for you, but I do feel the pure-Belanger is not only the best value, but the deepest, most muscle-car tone for sure.

Doubleup i think your wife will have no problem with the belanger system.. it is not quiet but is very pleasant cruising and great at wot.. it is much more bearable on long trips than my 03 with just a corsa (no headers)...all my kids ride in the 08 and never complain.. i had a 06 srt8 jeep with corsa and the drone was unbearable that the kids refused to ride...

Depends on your wife's tolerance? Definately much louder and a stronger drone than my 06 with just a corsa. You really hear the noise and drone when you get to around 3K rpm. Adding the corsa may even amplify the exhaust note. As Mark said might want to stick with headers and stock cat back, or, use the stock muffler and the belanger cats if you want to tone it down.

It's also interesting that the new exhaust systems don't use the same flex coupling as on my Gen 2. You'd think with the way the engine jumps around when you're up against the rev limiter that things are a shakin' pretty good on that exhaust.

With the new hood design the headers and no shields are not an issue. What can be an issue though with any of these exhausts is idling and or slow stop and go traffic. This will tend to over heat the clutch line and boil the fluid so be careful during those parades, .

If you are worried about the exhaust flex and the motor jumping around I can help that with the Woodhouse engine and trans mount!

CORRECT:

They retain more heat internally and use it to more completely burnoff emissions.

The 08-09 hoods, and smaller insulator pads, exhaust far more heat

Lou Belanger finally showed em the flex-pipes are NOT needed....Belanger has not used em on Vipers for over 15 years.

But STAY OFF THE REV LIMITER DAMMIT!!

My girlfriend has no problems at all with my Belanger headers and exhaust. It is a bit loud if you want to talk while doing some spirited driving. But that's what spirited driving is good for, "quiet time."

Yeah, I learned the hard way... Gen 2 valvetrain doesn't like to be wound up too high. Thanks for those pushrods, by the way Popped 'em in, runs like new. You should see the old ones - bent all to heck...

I bought the full Belanger system for my 2006 coupe from Parts Rack about a year and one half ago. I could not stand the drone, so I put the cross overs back on, which quieted the car considerably but cost some hp / tq.

I've tried many muffler combinations in the past but until recently, no joy.

I've been working with Lou Belanger for the last month or two and we recently tried the OE / stock 28 inch mufflers and his 2.5 inch tail pipe behind his headers and h/f cats on my 2006.

The sound is very good at idle, very crisp - sounds like a comp coupe. At cruise, there is very little to no drone and the car is quieter than with his regular 20-inch Magnaflow. At WOT, the car screams and makes about 20 more rwhp / tq than with the cross overs.

I doubt that it would pass sound at Laguna Seca, but it would be closer to passing than the regular Belanger system. You will have to lift when driving by the sound monitoring station.

Call Lou Belaner directly for more info. He's a very nice guy who's willing to work with you and help find a solution for your issues.

I agree. I was in Austin a few weeks ago and SnakeEye on here had his 08 there with a full Belanger exhaust and sounded great and is not the same sound I've heard from same exhaust on an 06.

I have high flow cats and corsa system and am thinking about getting just the Belanger headers.

I have Roe high flow cats/corsa combo. If I want to add just the Belanger headers to this, will I have to use his cats also or will the headers connect to the Roe cats? There are no bolt holes in the Roe cat flanges, they use the factory v-band clamp.
