I am considering upgrading my brakes (1995 RT/10 with 17" speedline wheels) and would to know which brake system would you recommend and where to find it at the best price, of course. Also would like to know how time (or money) do you think it would take for a viper tech to install the system. The system would mainly be used for street driving with occassional quarter mile runs at the track.

Thanks,

John

The brakes that come on your car are more than entirely adequate for your intended usage, and then some. If you want to make an inexpensive change that will help modulation tremendously, look into upgrading pad compounds and switch to the power brake booster from a 96-98 Gen2 car. The Gen1s had brakes that were like on/off switches with no feel.

Check for wrecked or parted Vipers. Paul Scharf is a good place to start.

I have been asking many of the experts of how to make my '94 brakes feel like my '99 ACR. Some have said the Gen 2 cars have adjustable pedals, thus different pivot points. However, my friend's 1996 RT/10 does not have adjustable pedals, yet feels like Gen 2 brakes. He drove my '94, and thought that my brakes failed! I check part numbers(at a dealer)for the master cylinder and power booster, and they are the same for Gen 1 and Gen 2. Maybe all replacement parts are Gen 2? So........has anyone changed the booster and actually noticed the difference. The booster(new)is not exactly cheap.

Thanks for any info.

1996-99....PN 4763 952
2000.........PN 4763 952AB

Master cylinders are all same .... PN 4642 548

Would the 2000 model be better also?

Thanks Tom. I checked out all the part numbers there, also. I ordered the 1996-99 power booster 2 days ago. Should receive it next week. I will post the results after installation.

Tom. You and I were right!
For all Gen 1 (1992-1995)owners who want to have the brake feel and modulation of a Gen 2, here is your answer. Yesterday, I replaced the power booster on my 1994 RT/10 with a 1996 booster(generously donated by Ted May of Valaya Racing, in San Jose). The brakes now feel the same as my 1999 ACR. I wish I had thought of this years ago. Feels like a new Viper! I recommend the change to any Gen 1 Viper owner. You won't be sorry. Total time (for me) was less than an hour to remove and replace the booster. Cost for the part was free, thanks to Ted. Retail price for the booster was quoted to me as $520.00. My dealer's price is $343.00(cost + 10%). Just do it!
