Several times people thought my viper was a vette. One time a guy thought my ferrari 360 was a mustang because "he seen the horse on the side".

Rear view looks suspicious too.

Only once. the guy thought I put some badazz body kit on a vette.

Not realizing he thought he was looking at a vette, I kept telling him it was bone stock and he would argue, (No way! it looks too cool it can't be.)

Then when he told me he thought it was a vette I keeled over like I'd been punched in the stomach. We got a big chuckle out of it.

All I know is the Corvette guys KNOW it is not a Corvette, and you can tell by the look in their eyes, they wish they had a Viper too. :yay:

Some door to door sales guy pitching his real estate business told my wife "nice Vette" when he caught her pulling into the garage.

I do have a lot of Corvette banners and signs up... but how does a GTS look like any vette?

A female friend of mine would call my Corvette a Camaro... It is embarassing. She even called my Viper a Camaro once.

It ain't the car...

A couple funny things about when my buddy and I brought my car home from Chicago last year. While driving from Chicago back to Michigan, we encountered many people along the way. One such person was a toll booth attendant in Illinois. He obviously knew the car, but was still razzing me a bit and said "Hey, isn't that the one with the V6 in it?". My buddy and I laughed our arses off, and he knew we liked it as he gave us the thumbs up in the rear view when we peeled out of that booth lane.
The next encounter was what this thread is all about. At a gas station on the Indiana/Michigan border, a woman pulled up next to us as we were pumping gas. She got out, took a look at the car and noticed the Viper SRT-10 emblems and said "Viper, is that some kind of new Corvette?". I laughed, gave her the explanation of what the car was, and she just said "That is the most beautiful car I have ever seen."
The whole trip home was a blast, and I knew from that day on I would always have people asking questions about the car. Nobody since has called it a Vette, but if they do I won't take it personally - just educate and move on!

Almost hated stopping at gas stations because some idiot would have to ask:

How much was it?
Is that yours?
Can I trade you cars?
Must **** gas!
Is that a V12?
What year is that, 2009?

One time at a restaurant a guy in a truck asked, "Is that a Corvette?" I replied, "No, it's a Dodge" he turned to his wife, "See I told you it wasn't a Corvette!"

Another time at work I was helping some contractors back a semi to our loading dock. They saw my car in the distance they said to each other, "Is that a miata? or a corvette? lets check it out!" They come back talking, "that is a Viper! they are much smaller than I thought!" and "Well I hate how the rear hatch bubbles out."

I asked my brother if he had gotten any comments in it, he has been storing it as I am in Korea.

I haven't been asked if my gen 2 ACR is a vette yet, although I have been asked if it is some kind of rare Jag, and if it was twice as expensive as a Lambo.

One interesting thing I have noticed though is more Corvette guys wave to me in the Viper then they did when I had my Z06, they must have Viper envy or something.

And also in answer to the original question... yes a few times. One guy asked me if that was the new Vette and when I told him it was a Viper he was like huh  most seem to know what it is though. Best reaction ever was when a guy about 2 lanes over yelled out at the top of his lungs "OH MY GOD... A VIPER!" no one has ever asked if my Vette was Viper though for whatever that's worth ;)

I picked my daughter up at high school last Friday. There is always a guy in a pewter vette there on nice days, and he usually has about 10 to 20 high school kids checking it out. Well not that day! His car could have been a Yugo as far as the school kids cared. I only had I kid ask if it was the new ZR1, then an older boy slapped him in the back of his head and told him "It's a Viper you idiot!" Then I got the "how much was it?", How fast is it?" "How old is it?" questions. So one kid out of umteen isn't bad as far as I'm concerned.

I have had several people ask me what kind of car it is because they had no idea, but I have also had 2 situations where one person thought it was a corvette, and on a better note someone else thought it was a Ferrari. :D

Last week, and old guy asked me who painted my '96 B/W.
I told him, "Dodge painted it."
He said, "Where's that?"

These cars definitely garner comments from all types.

Had a family holiday party and during the evening lowered my lift down and took the cover off because some people wanted to see the car. Elderly uncle said it was the Corvette Pace Car because all the cars were painted blue with white stripes! You just have to nod and agree "I didn't know that". Another time I was getting fuel and a guy comes flying up to the pump next to me in his 84 Cross-Fire Injection Corvette and gets out and says, "sorry thought that was the new ZR1". A Gen 2? Really?... I should have been quick on my feet but "thought you were driving a Corvette" should have been my response.
