As much as i love vipers the one thing that always gets brought up is their weight..

But going from a 350 HP 2004 C5 to a 450 HP rt10 ment that the weight differance wouldnt mean anything and i made the jump 7 months ago...

Now you'd swear that Vipers weigh 3500-3600 pounds the way other car boards talk about them..And around 3500 is what I was expecting..

But low and behold I look at my 99 rt10 registration and it says my vehicle weight is 3380 pounds!!!! What the hell is everyone complaining about? 3380 pounds for a car with a 488 V10 is pretty good right?

In comparison my 2004 C5 vehicle registration said 3310 pounds ( of course thats with the glass top in the trunk) so with one top in storage I thinking roughly 3290 pounds...

ONLY 80 POUNDS MORE THAN THE VIPER THAT EVERYONE THINKS IS SO HEAVY

So I got to thinking...

At a start weight of 3380 pounds....

- removing the hard top would be good for around 30 pounds right??
-Removing the spare and jack would be good for another 20 pounds right?
-running with a 1/4 tank of gas would be good for another 40 pounds right?

Seems to me like a 100% stock rt10 could weigh in at 3300 pounds even just by taking off the top and removing the spare and running a 1/4 tank of gas????

Im suspecting that this is the way Evan smith ran the bone stock rt10 to an 11.7 at 120 mph...

as well as pauls 11.7 at 119 mph....

Any feedback from people whove went on the scales before drag racing isd appreciated..Thanks.

In talking about surprised, check out the weight distribution. It's nearly a perfect 50-50. Most people think that it's front heavy like an old muscle car.

the viper in all generations can be considered a mid engined sports car, abiet a front mid engined one. almost the entire powerplant is behind the front axle line, and if you look at a schematic of the car the engine is nearly in the middle of the car, especially when you count the tranny.
