Does anyone make an ipod adapter? I had bought a cable they they installed in my old bmw, they just instaleld it in the stock headunit.

I want a hardwired one, not one of those FM transmitters.

And i dont want to go through the hassle of replacing the whole headunit

yes, in my 08 I did this, it worked for 3 months, sent the electronics into a tailspin, and had to be pulled out. There is a bulletin that says the mopar adapter is not to be used in vipers (and doesn't say which year either). Many do this and it works for them, wish I was one of em cause I LOVED it for 3 months.

To date, there has NEVER been an issue in an 03-06 car that I know of. ~20% of 08-09's wont work, with Nsane1 being the only case I know of where is actually worked for a period of time, then stopped working correctly.

Danny;

You might want to rephrase your statement because the 06' specific IPOD Adaptor I bought form you did NOT work, even after a new cable was purchased as you suggested to the Viper tech (all of which you are well aware of as he spoke to you directly), it still did not work and threw my electronics into a haywire in my Viper (affecting everything from the gauge cluster to the window regulators).

The adaptor is just sitting in the box ready to be sent back to you, but I have not had the time. I recently purchased an RB1 head unit and was going to call you to see if maybe it would work on that unit better than the factory 06 head unit?

Hey, this is sometimes not an exact science, thus I am not upset with what took place on my Viper or with you, as we are trying to do something that Dodge does not reccomend, nor acknowledge, but I do want to ensure that someone else does NOT go through what I went through.

The bottomline is there are issues with an 06' and they do not all work. You are aware of this.

I did it in my 04, but I upgraded to the RB1 at the same time. Works great and took about 30 minutes to replace the headunit and all. Only "problem" I had was that the GPS antenna went bad, but I ordered a new one for about $25 and now all is well!

Also, if you do this and it works, it will not charge the newest iPods or iPhones...so be careful of that.

Anyone with a gen 3 viper having problems with a mopar factory 1pod, pm me and ill tell you the solution. 08 or 09 I not know. The factory harness is missing a wire and you will have problems if you run sat, radio, and ipod. should be fine if you only run ipod and radio. The problem starts when you try to do all three.

Sorry for being OT. But I do have a RB1 for sale, 1200 miles on it from my '08 ACR. What is it worth?

Rick-

Yes, I forgot about your car- but it still doesnt add up.

If I recall correctly, the conclusion we came to was that you had one of the defective iPod adapters [all others have been accounted for] or something wrong with your RB1 that went out in that batch. There must be something unique to YOUR car that is not right. There are NO noticeable bus system or wiring changes from 2003-2006. With hundreds of these things installed in 03-06 cars, and you having the only issue of any type- you have to agree that there is NOT an actual installation issue or compatibility problem here.

Dan;

I have not installed the RB1 unit yet and the stereo that is in there now is 100% factory unit that came with the car when I bought it brand new. I tried a new cable as you suggested to my Viper tech and it still did not work. I just didn't have the patience to carry it through as it was taking way to much of my time to try to get it to work and the charges at the dealership to fiddle with it were adding up.

I could send the whole thing back to you (as it is just packaged up anyway) if you want to give me a credit or send me out a new one that will work with my new RB1 Nav/sirius radio unit I am going to have the dealer install.

I am not sure what the issue was, which is why I just let it be all this while. I really wish I have the IPOD working on this as I have a ton of songs I would like to listen to while driving.

If you want, just e-mail me Dan at [email protected] and we cna get somehting figured out.

Thanks
Rick

Hi Rick,

That's no problem, any way you would like to handle it. I do fear however that its possible the problem may be located in your cars wiring harness, and unfortunately that's no easy task to figure out. The most logical answer would be that your bus system wire, whether it be in the radio harness, the RB1/OEM radio, or in the iPod kit, is shorted to something else.

The only thing I can suggest is that at some point, send the RB1 and iPod kit here, I will test both of them in another chassis that I KNOW works correctly, and we will see what happens. If both systems come back OK in that chassis, and your issue persists on your end once installed, then the problem is indeed in your cars wiring harness.

I will shoot you an e-mail and let's just try to send back the iPOD Adaptor. That is probably easiest. I won't think it would be anything in my car's wiring harness as everything other than the IPOD works great. I don't have any other issues and the car is 100% original.

That is okay, these things are not always perfect.
