Yesterday I had the car out for drive and then stopped in to get gas. After I filled it up, I started the car. The car acted very strangely in that the idle was at or below the 500RPM mark and pressing in the accelerator several times did nothing. I heard a noise that sounded like gears not meshing correctly although the car was in neutral. I turned the car off and restarted and this time it started fine. Any ideas? Would this have anything to do with the problem I have had where the engine shuts off when warm when idling?

Did you leave the shifter partly engaged? Did the noise start when you let the clutch go after you started it?

It was in neutral the whole time with the clutch pressed in. I never tried to get going because it was running so strangely.
