New Subwoofer was added to my RT/10-- photos included

Well, I did it. I could no longer stand the sound of my stereo without some pounding bass. After research, it was decided that the best palce in my RT/10 would be the passenger footwell area. I REALLY, REALLY didn't want to use that space, but here were the options:

1) Build out a space between the seats and put a sub in there. Problem is that deep bass generally needs a little room before it sounds good, and this space is 1 foot from your head. Not good.

2) Build an enclosure and place it inside the door (I have a Gen I.) I almost went this route, but it was more costly.

3) Put it into the foot well area -- far enough away, cheap, etc.

I went with option 3 and it sounds fantastic. Super loud bass coming from a single 8 inch solobaric kicker sub. These new subs need just over half a foot of enclosed area, so the box is tiny. I had them build it so that I could sit in the passenger seat and fit comfortably, and I am almost 6'4. I also wanted the ability to remove it for whatever reason. They added a sub level knob inside the glove box so that I can increase or decrease the power to the sub -- certain songs need it, or certain entire CD's sound better with more or less bass.

They added a strong metal mesh to the front so somebody doesn't accidentally puyt a foot through the speaker. I wanted to go with a 10" but there was no way to make it fit without taking up more space than I wanted, and unless I point it out to people, they don't even realize it is there, even after they are inside my car as a passenger. I am very pleased.

lol...If anyone that lives around Cincinnati, Ohio wants that, I'll hook it up for them. I am not a "pro", but have lots of experience with system, neons, and just some regular stuff.

The car was at West Coast Viper getting prepped before I left to go road racing at Button Willow. They had to wait for a part to come in for 2 days, so I asked John Horton if he knew anybody local to him that did good stereo work. Surprisingly, he suggested Al & Eds Auto Sound not too far from where they were, as the one installer there was supposed to be really good. So it went there while WCV waited for the part, then it got sent back to WCV to finish up. I had some decent tunes during the 8 hours of total drive time to and from the Button Willow Race track.

You definiteley picked the right sub. The solobaric is the perfect choice for your RT/10.

Actually, the bass hits equally as hard with the top on or off. I am very impressed. I thought I might not like the 8 inch, but they hit REAL hard. they put in a good amp to run the sub, hence the knob in the glove box.

Are you talking about the two speakers in the center between the seats? The previous owner changed all the speakers out to alpine speakers. They sound OK I guess -- good enough to leave in there. I would like a bit better mid-range. JL Audio's have always sounded awesome to me (have had them in several of my cars.) I might swap out the ones in the rear and put in JL A's.

Where did you get the remote gain control...brand? model number? or did it come with the amp you are using to drive the sub...

Looks awesome...is the box wood or fiberglass???

Came with the amp. Box is fiberglass molded to the exact shape of the space it occupies. Took them 2 days to complete the project, and this is just for adding an amp, running cables, adding the knob, building the box, installing it all and testing.

I really do think one is plenty so long as you are running enough clean power to it. I have the gain turned down it is so loud. I love the fact that my 6'3 self (and I have long legs for a 6'3 guy) fits in there good. My girl can actually prop her feet up on it for a comfy ride, even though she hates the Viper.
