I installed an Optima 800U in my 94 a couple months ago. It fit with about 1/2 inch clearance.

I installed one in my 95 last month without any problems. Whatever you do don't cut the top posts off the battery. The battery will work for a day or two and that is it. My friend found that out the hard way.

I tried to install a 800U in my 94" and it lacked 3/8" to clear.
Go figure?

Don't waste your money on an OPTIMA battery! Go to Sam's Club & buy a Champion Gold Series # 75-2, 750 amp battery. It does not have any top posts. It has a slightly shorter lenght & width with the same base deminsions so that it fits your clamp hold down. It has a retractable plastic handle which makes it much easier to install & remove then the OEM battery. For about $45
it is a perfect battery for the Gen I cars with the battery in the trunk. I have had one in my 93 for the past two years. It is great.
