PVO debuted the Comp Coupe vs the F-16 in March, but the first head-2-head auto race was VIPER DAYS.

20 Vipers, most unlimited, and some hot-shoe drivers.

Paul Mumford took 2nd, 1.5 laps behind the PVO-CC ....but it was NOT that close! A Pace Car miscue ended up with a 3-lap yellow, with the CC and the leaders at the BACK! They had to work their way thru 15+ cars to again build a 1+ lap lead... it would have been 2+ laps if no yellow had resulted......

A very impressive showing at the speedway by the CC team. The decision to start on the pole (after wining it by 1.2 sec. in qualifying)showed how the car dominated the field. Some might say it was because of the driver but considering this track layout was basicilly a drag strip with a few turns, showed that the car was superior. The run to turn 1, as the green flag flew, was the race. The balance of the time we spent wondering not who was going to be lapped but when would they get lapped (and how many times)? The race behind the CC was between Paul Mumford and Mike McCann. They dogged each other for the entire race with Paul holding off Mike to the checker. Another dog fight included Jim McCann, Eric Messley and (I can't remember the name). No one could out dual the other.

The yellow flag incident bunched up the entire field thus making it a forgone conclusion that that Paul and Mike would be lapped. But, if it had not come out it would have been close. It was suprising that this race was as clean as it was. No "RACING INCIDENTS" was a welcomed suprise. Everyone was on their best behavuor. That is not to say that it was boring because there was plenty passing going on. Not on the superspeedway part but at the entry point to the road coarse. A real tight 180 degree hairpin. Some close calls but I didn't see any tire marks on bodywork.

My hats off to the CC Development Team, driver and crew. Also a tip of the hat to all the racers who participated. Can't wait to see a big group of CC racing out at the first event of next year.
