Radiator Plug Stuck

I went to drain my radiator today and can't get the plug out. I was using an allen wrench and didn't really get into it, but I'm not getting any movement at all. I thought it would come out fairly easily. Wrong!

Any suggestion? Is it ok to apply a propane torch?

Is this a job for a professional?

Thanks,

Bob

I've read the manual on burping the system, but I've got to say it still sounds intimidating!

Thanks for the advise on the removing the plug.

Bob, Keith is right: DO NOT TOUCH that plug!! As for burbing, if you would like, give me a call anytime and I can walk you through the procedure.

Eventually the plug should be removed. Have a shop do it though.

What for when you can drain your system by way of the lower hose and you WILL get more out that way!

ah yes, i remember the first time i change antifreeze. after stripping out the plug, pulling out the radiator, having it fixed, putting it back in in the freezing cold, burping the darn system for what seemed like forever, it was fairly easy.

Ok, I'll give the bottom hose a go and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion on the hoses with the vent. Looks very interesting. Now, assuming I get this all drained and figure out how to "burp" the car, how much grief am I going to get putting Prestone Green Extended Life Antifreeze in it?

Gen1? Put the green stuff in there. If you don't pop the block plugs there will be a ton of antifreeze left in there. Use distilled water to flush. Search and search the posts.

I think it is Roe Racing or SnakeOyl that sells a funnel that threads on the surrogate radiator reservoir. That would be a big benefit if you don't know what you are doing. You need to find a local member to show you the first time.

Welcome to this site. If you didn't know already, the Viper Wizard is the top mer-can-ict in the world. :2tu: So any advice he gives should be framed in your garage.
