Anyone try pro efi or motec looking for input on any experiance good or bad on using these units

AEM Infinity has a Viper specific unit we developed on the Gen 4's years ago. I believe its applies to all Gens.

Hey Dan,

If I recall, the AEM Infinity-10 has been discontinued for a while now due to ongoing QC issues... much like the 1500U's of yester-year.


To the OP, for a G4 application my suggestion would be Pectel or Motec. To this day, I believe the Pectel SQ6M12 & MQ12 were the only controllers capable of running a Gen-4 without a single extra accessory box of some type. All other options require Wideband expanders, Ignition modules or drivers, Drive-By-Wire expanders, or similar... even the Infinity and Motec options did/do as they are all TTL based ignition outputs and/or dont have internal lambda drivers.

All that said, the Motec M1 series is a great option as well, and would be easier to find someone familiar as its far more common than Pectel.

Nothing "wrong" with HalTech, provided it is capable of running an odd-fire engine. But an ECU is only as powerful as its hardware quality and software. HalTech is just *now* getting close to the capabilities of Pectel in 2005. That should put it into perspective when comparing professional motorsports electronics vs standard aftermarket level equipment.

We can still calibrate the Factory 1992-1995 SBEC and 1996 JTEC Gen 1 controller for most any non-boosted applications if helpful.

FYI, back in the day we had great luck with Pectel (like Dan mentioned) and the traction control system worked really well.

I ran a ProEFI system when I drove Blucifer to 252 MPH in 2020 and it worked great. I switched to a Motec system for the next attempt because the tuner is able to control so much more. If anyone has any interest I still have the ProEFI complete with the harness to piggyback off the Gen 3 ECU. I also have a spare new/never used ProEFI ECU. I was about 1400 WHP with that system and it worked great for that. Thanks, David

Calibrate? Are you tuning Gen 1 controllers?

Yes,
We have been tuning the SBEC controller for many years and believe we are the only ones who do so. Back in the day we had a package with a tune that made an honest 600hp and passed Ca emissions.

We have been tuning the SBEC controller for many years and believe we are the only ones who do so.

I also have the ability to alter G1 code, but primarily stick to prom duplication for repair work as I dont deal with G1 cals enough to be familiar to the point its economical. I refer all the G1 calibration requests over to you guys.

That said... if in the future there was ever some kind of a G1 calibration call in any kind of quantity, I would certainly be interested in working with you guys; I can supply the reman G1 controllers ready to rock with a watersealed and fully potted replaceable PROM socket and RF cover, and you guys handle the cal work. In the very near future I will be able to laser metal sheet & plate on an industrial scale, and making replacement RF shields for the app that are integrated with the potting would be easy at that point.

Secondarily, it is feasible to integrate a programming hub into the module itself that would allow prom flashing while installed.

I fear there is not enough funding/volume of scale to justify... but it is theoretically possible with my existing equipment.

Also It’s good that the Gen 1 folks know they have the same tuning solutions as the later models.
