start in 2nd or 3rd for best et in street trim?

I was told today that a YANKO BIG BLOCK CAMERO test showed starting out in 3rd gear was the key with street tires,or 2nd.Has anyone tested this out???

Yeah, and it had 4.56 or 5.12 rear gears, too. The gearing in those YENKO's (and that's not YANKOn your chain) is quite different than a Viper.

Having driven most of the cars from the 60's, either back then or after a restoration, I can tell you that the Yenko cars, as well as the Baldwin Motion cars didn't need to use third gear to launch the cars well on the street. Just as with the Viper, the key to a good launch was a balance between throttle and clutch, which I used to do in my friend's Baldwin Chevelle and also in the 427 Camaros. Of course, the tires were quite skinny compared to today's tires too, and wheelspin was more of a problem because of that among other things. :) pete the ex-glass guy

Always start in 1st gear, or risk ruining your clutch. Viper has very long gears in differential (3:07) and clutch will be very distressed with other than 1st gear starts. Let clutch off just above idle, and modulate throttle to control wheel spin...great fun.
