Supercharging vs. Twin turbo

Can anyone tell me what the cost of adding a TT is (approx) to a Gen II...and what kind of power difference there is. Is there a big advantage of Supercharging vs.Turbo? Also, is there a lot of extra maintenance involved? I live in a rural area of Mississippi where most shops have never seen a Viper let alone being proficient in tuning or upgrading one.

Rural area ?! Then your issue will be to find good quality fuel. You will be limited with the boost. Beyond 700hp you can't feel the difference unless you ride above 120mph. You will have difficulty to put down so much force to the pavement.

Then what will you do with so much force on small roads ? Hunt chickens ?! Have a look on my picture in my archive. You will see what chickens can do ...

When you decided what you want, think about daily drivability and reliablity.

No racing fuel around here... just regular 93-94 octane is easily obtainable. We do have interstates so I don't have to just hunt chickens (although it is a common local pastime) but I rarely get above 120-130. Just looking for a faster 1/4 mile time essentially. reliability is VERY important though.

Twin Turbo Hands Down, You can always turn down the boost for better drivabiity. Better potential to make more power. Power comes later in the power band which helps in getting better traction.

I have both a bad ass twin turbo car and a NA car for a couple of reasons,

I bought my car initially with a Roe S/C, due to a bad tune the car was hurt so bad that I had to rebuild the motor... in the process I decided to go with the twin turbo setup. Now, the car is awesome but not as driveable on the street as I would like.. in the west Texas heat and stop and go traffic I cannot run my A/C because the car heats to quick... even with the AEM and the boost on the lowest setting the car screams!

My NA car is a Venom 650R package dynoing right under 600 rwhp and rwtq (numbers are essentially identical within a couple of points). It has a really aggressive head and cam combo that sounds awesome, is super driveable, and still pulls hard! I can idle all day long with the A/C on, idle around town with no issues!

In short, for a lot less money you could have a head and cam setup installed and see how you like it... then add on later if you wish...

For everyday viper cruising my pick is my head and cam car... doesn't perform anything like the TT, but I save that one for special occasions!

One of the major differences is going to be cost. The average twin turbo kit will run you around $25,000 installed and tuned. Heffner, Underground, RSI and Paolo Castellano all charge pretty much the same price for their kits.

On the other hand, a Roe supercharger can be had for around $7500 installed (with a couple hundred more for tuning). You won't make quite as much power on the Roe s/c as you will with twin turbos, but you might feel better having that extra $17,000 in your pocket.

I went with the Roe blower and water/methanol kit. I installed it myself (with the help of some friends). The car makes 564/594 through the stock manifolds and high flow cats. I'm taking it to Performance by Joe tomorrow to get a good tune on it. I'm sure it will end up being over 600/600 on pump gas when he's done with it.

I'd love to have a car that makes 800 rwhp+, but the difference between 6xx and 8xx wasn't worth basically the $20,000 pricetag to me at this point.

the TT car has less compression for sure...

on the average turbos can make the same hp with 3lbs less boost


there is no parasitic loss with a tt.

Theres 2 ways to look at that either

less strain on the motor for same hp
or
more hp at same boost level.

Turbo is the way to go. Call Jason Heffner, and there will be no "drivability" issues whatsoever.

Remember if you go TT you are gonna need a set of Kuhmos to hook, Unitrax halfshafts and safety loops...Yes with a Roe S/C that wouldnt hurt either, but you can run Pilots with success, let em' spin and keep your stock halfshafts. The price can escalate out of control so be careful. I wanted to go TT, but felt it was too pricey for me...It is the baddest setup for sure, so if price is no object go TT...Al...

TT is the way to go! Covers all bases, and let's not forget, if you are afraid to use the max power of the TT, you can always leave the Boost Switch pointed towards your rear!

TT ...see sig.. Once you go turbo, you'll never go back. Seen a lot of guys go from SC to Turbo, never heard of a guy going from Turbo to SC.

I have had both and while supercharging is an excellent way of adding power they simply do not compare to the Twin Turbo.

The Twin Tubo is much quieter for street driving and far less maintance.
Twin Turbo will aslo be faster

Hey to be honest, us guys in the south east really

shouldn't get into Turbo cars.I had this talk with D

yesterday. Can you imagine you send your car to get TT.What

happens if somethign goes wrong?I have to drive 2000 miles

to get it fixed everytime? I mean it's not the money but

the time of going back and forth would piss me off. I would

THATS the only thing that would scare me away from a heffner or the other tuner in texas's TT car. im confident in thier work and that the car would come back to me in perfect working order. but now if for some reason it starts to run like crap....then what? off to florida or texas? that aint fun. just the down time alone would kill me.
