My car as purchased used came with these keys. One the plastic head, one the metal head. What came from the factory with an '01 GTS?

My (red) car came with two black plastic keys. I thought the red and blue plastic were aftermarket.

My original key is the one on the left. My FOB is different. Not sure what year they changed to the newer FOB you have pictured.

My Gen 1 fob has 50% more buttons than yours, Dave. :poke:

Red Vipers don't need the Go Faster button.

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

You set yourself up BAD for that one!!!

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

A freakin' MASTERPIECE Dave!

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Like the man or not, I think Dave is onto something. My RED Gen 1 only has 2 buttons as well. "Lock" and "unlock", which is so cute considering Gen 1's don't have power door locks :lmao: They should say "arm" and "disarm", since all they do is control the alarm, but they are probably the same fob you got with a Lebaron :crazy2: For the record, my car also came with a "Lebaron-esque" looking key (very plain with just a Chrysler star on it, just like my remote), but I bought one of the black Snake head keyblanks off Ebay.

Sorry guys, another newbie question here ... What does the Lock Button do? Doors but also is there an alarm? (How do I make it go off for a test? The horn beeps when I hit the button but grabbing the door handle after it is armed or rocking the car doesn't do anything).

Is there an immobilizer function as well?

Just wondering.

Set your alarm and then pop the hood. ;)

For the alarm to be armed, you have to have your doors locked and then set the alarm. If you want to make the alarm go off, unlock your door and then open it (without pressing "unlock" on your remote).

:dunno:

:eater:

(gen 1 thingy?)

Probably so. The Gen 1 alarm is about as effective as the Gen 1 softtop. Then again, even a cracked out streetwalker wouldn't break into a Gen 1. What are they gonna take? The K-car ashtray? :lmao: If they steal the car, the ******* girl who I leave in the passenger seat will just call me and let me know where they are (my personal version of OnStar) :rolaugh:

where can you get the key blanks?

Also, what about the FOB as pictured in the first post. My car has this huge ugly as hell key fob and i'd like to get a newer style.

You can get the key blanks and fobs off this auction site that must be near a bay of water. They call themselves a similar name... ;)

There may availability at many of the vendors at the Marketplace link above too.

Hey, I resemble that remark! And my softtop & alarm keep all my cassettes safe (and dry) thank you very much!

PS The doors do not have to be locked to arm the alarm.

PPS Button envy!!

PPPS The third button has a picture of the prototype Gen 2, so we all knew what your car was gonna look like before you even bought it! (Nice spoiler!!)

I should apologize. My softtop does keep me dry. But, thats only because in 93k miles, the car's never been driven in rain :rolaugh:

After doing some indepth testing, Tom's right. My alarm isn't quite as useless as I thought it was. Tom wins this battle, but I bet I know more about oil and gasoline :lmao:

I still only have 2 buttons on my remote. I guess mine came from a base model Lebaron instead of a fully loaded one like Tom's :D

Whew, man, I came into this one late....so, almost silly to put in my 2 cents, but mine came with the one on the left...gray plastic with black snake.

Oh, I vote for Chadstar....

Apology accepted. And I vote for Chadstar also, since when you do get caught in the rain you will have to call for an umbrella service. (Yes, my latest million dollar idea is an umbrella service for exotic cars. They would be delivered by Gen 1 Vipers with softtops!)

I was a little off the mark myself, since the third button was indicative only of the Gen 2 GTS, not Gen 2 RT/10. You can tell because the white outline meant that Dodge really wanted to do the white hood vents.

Ok, I wanna know why I don't have a trunk release button on my remote. I saw the remote of another Gen 1 owner last night and he had a trunk release button as well! Did it take Dodge until 96' to realize that the trunks didn't even have gas shocks, much less that they weren't wired for remote opening? Was there a recall for remotes that are missing the useless trunk button? :rolaugh:

That button is to get your ass out of the trunk after it's been handed to you by a red Viper.

Hence, you don't need it.

Brilliant!
