Hey Guys,
Good night at the track last night and making some solid progress toward the magic 10 second quarter mile.
Got in a total of 6 runs last night and the very last one, driven at 1 a.m. in the morning after a good cool down, netted an 11.36 @ 124.3 with a smoking 1.75 short time and DA of nearly 1500 feet!!!!!!!
DA corrected for standard conditions that is an 11.18 @ 126.2. Corrected for some negative DA weather like we saw last winter and it is an 11.04 @ 127.9. Now these correction factors are not the gospel, but they give a good indication of what I should be able to do with some great weather and good track prep.
Several other interesting observations. On my second run, with the car very hot and DA of nearly 2000 ft. I ran an 11.48 @ 120.8and a record 1.74 short time. I hot lapped it and backed that up with another 1.76 short time. Most interesting here is that the trap speed is well within what a stock viper should run in great weather. That means as I postulated clear back when I ran the 11.50 in my stock car that a stock gen III is capable of high 11.30s to low 11.40s. I trapped 122.4 on my stock 11.5 run, nearly 1.5 mph more than this run. With that extra mph a low 11.40 would have probably happenend here.
Secondly, I think we can dispense with the argument about the short times possible on street tires. I ran a 1.74, 1.75 and 1.76. I believe a 1.70 is possible and maybe a high 1.6 with everything right. It is my belief that with the right weather and a 1.70 short time or better I will hit the magic number. We will see!!!!
Here is the best run in detail:
R/T .015
60' 1.751
330 4.832
1/8th 7.390
MPH 97.42
1000 9.565
1/4 11.369
MPH 124.38
