Anyone have Oil Filters??

I know this has been beat to death... but it is time for an oil change on the Gen 1 and I would prefer to stick with the 5281090AB filter. Unfortunately, I am more likely to find a unicorn. Does anyone have an extra or two you want to part with.

If you couldn't get this one, what is everyone using? I have read the forum posts but still not sure what is the best option. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Sorry that I can't help with the filter you mentioned.

The MOPAR Oil Filter NOW recommended is Viper Specific for 1992 thru 2006 Vipers...05037836AB. (note "AB" and NOT "AA").

Would the gen 2 use the same as a gen 1? If so, I have about 6 or so that were for my 1998 GTS which I sold for a gen 5.I would have to move some garage stuff to get the number off the box if needed.

M1204A has roughly the same By-Pass Pressure Valve rating as the Viper Filter.

I wonder if Mopar filters are becoming NLA. I tried to order filters for my Vipers and was told by multiple dealers
5037836 (gen2) - NLA
5038041 (gen 4/5) - 45-60 day lead time

I bought the last of Rock Auto's supply of Gen2 filters.

Hopefully the dealerships are wrong about it being NLA and this is a temporary supply chain issue as it would be highly disappointing if my oil filter no longer said 'Viper' on it to demonstrate its superiority

Again, confused... Im not talking about the Mobil Filter
which i know uses cellulose [tissue] paper and a 90psi tin valve.
Im talking about the Viper Filters which use Synthetic
by-weave and stainless steel 110psi valve. I know how crappy
both Mobil and Wix can sometimes get, ive been fighting
this fight here for 20+ years Dan, you should know that,
im just disappointed as to why you feel this way. Statistically
i know nothing in manufacturing is 100% but (other than
that lab guy on youtube who was suspiciously sponsored
by Fram,) i have yet to personally see a sub-par Viper
Filter, or any kind of fiber failure... especially when compared
to Mobil, Wix, and *cough* Fram...

Your credibility slipped a bit when you claimed the M1 filters use anything but a synthetic media or stainless components. The cases on the Viper filters are nowhere near as stout as the M1 filters.

You can be as disappointed as you want to be. I have seen the insides if the Viper filters with my own eyes, and the junk that was in them. The ones I have pulled apart had horrible fitting anti-drainback valves that didnt seal and were so oversized that they were able to fall to the side out of alignment, and I have seen two that had seam leaks on race engines back when I was handling a number of those. I have had the drain back issues pop up on my own car, so I won't run them based on that alone. Could they have been revised since then? Sure, but I dont give second chances on mundane critical components.

Know how many M1 filter issues I have had or seen? Zero.

You can do as you wish with your own car, makes no difference to me one way or the other.

On the Gen 4 side of things, I'd highly doubt it - if my memory serves, that filter is also used in all of the Hellcat motors, and there's a ton of those still rolling around.

Just received 2 M1 Filters from RockAuto.
They definitely have some weight to them!

I can't believe that in spite of my vigorous sucking off the OEM filter it finally let me down.

I opened up my nice brand new OEM filter and found metal machining junk stuck between the plastic protective cap and the oil holes in the filter.

After shaking out the debris I **'d and hum'd about putting it on my car, and then I noticed the bottom edge of it had a nice dent in it. So at least that settled that ... put on a M1-204 since I didn't feel like waiting 2 weeks shipping to get a new filter since it seems dealerships can't get them and only Viper vendors have them now.

I am sad.

Why are you sad, nothing wrong with an M1 Filter at all. Personally, I probably will never buy a Viper Filter again.
