    VERY COOL MOVIE!!!

That "jet car" was actually using a Lycoming T-55 helicopter engine (3,750 shaft hp), turning all the wheels via a reduction gearbox (16000 rpm at the turbine to 7000 rpm at the wheels, ~2:1 ratio, at 450 mph). It was not designed for "out of the hole" acceleration due to it's high speed gearing...

RSI Twin Turbo, F16 Jet and 208 mph

I know a retired F16 pilot who says the F16 will hit 1200+ mph in less than a minute, at full power (25,000 pounds of thrust, or about 50,000 horsepower). I'm wondering how quickly the F22 will accelerate, since it has a better thrust to weight ratio than the F16... F16 weighs 26,000 pounds...

    Who's the Baddest?

Re: Who\'s the Baddest? What do you think is the theoretical usable upper horsepower limit of a Viper engine, running twin turbos and all the latest hi-tech management equipment? Is 3000 or even 4000 horsepower possible? Even at 2000 hp, that's approaching the power to weight ratio of...

I RACED W/NEWZ06 SUNDAY, WARNING SRT10 ITS NOT GOOD NEWS

Why do you have to be a party pooper? With 1900+ views of this thread, it looks like a lot of other people are interested in this thread. Ranger is an integral part of this discussion, since he drives the car that was involved in the race (and upcoming race)! And other people have been asking...

SVS heading to the Maxton Monster Mile

It sounds like this will be a great season of mile racing! I like this more than quarter mile drag racing. I'm not sure how much faster the SVS car would've gone with 400 more horsepower; I guess it depends on the tires and gearing. They just might answer that question for us when they run at El...

Sorry, my bad... Isn't this car/bike competition great? Makes all vehicles faster in the long run...

SVS Viper TTRS -Vid- Worlds Fastest Production Vehicle in the Standing Mile

Nice video! I bet it was scary when the tranny popped! How did the car react? I just wanted to get more info on the statement "world's fastest full body production vehicle", since I'm sure the bike racers will be wondering what your definition of "full body production vehicle" is. Several Busas...

SVS heading to the Maxton Monster Mile

Interesting you said that "Rough estimate is double speed you cube the HP", but then you said "As we have all seen speed is directly proportional to HP"...aren't those two statements a bit contradictory? Anyway, you make it sound like it's really easy to hit 240+ in the mile. If it's so simple...

SVS heading to the Maxton Monster Mile

I think a TT Viper can eventually get to 261 mph in a mile, but probably not in the next year. Let's play with the numbers. A stock Gen II GTS can do around 175 mph in a standing mile, with around 400 rwhp. The mighty SVS turbo Viper can go 218 mph, or 43 mph faster than a stock Viper; this is...

SVS wins Hot Rod Top Speed Challenge - 218.95 mph!

Did you run your Camaro at Maxton? How fast did you go?

SVS wins Hot Rod Top Speed Challenge - 218.95 mph!

Great video, and congrats on your win! Thanks for sharing it with us. The rider of the 219 mph Busa was impressed with your Viper! I put a link to his on-bike video run in the Snake Pit, if you want to view it... it's a bit shakier than your video... Link

    Viper VS Busa Video Link

I haven't heard back from the racer regarding his power level, but it looks like other normally aspirated 1507 cc Busas are running in the 230-245 rwhp range. I made an error earlier...the SVS Viper ran 219.4 mph, not 219.0

    Viper VS Busa Video Link

I'll try to find out what his power level was. I know the 261 mph Maxton record is held by a 450 rwhp streetable stock wheelbase turbo Busa. The hard core racers estimate that 280+ mph is possible on the nearly 800 rwhp turbo Busas...it's getting the power to the ground that limits them.

    Viper VS Busa Video Link

Still gotta watch out for those well-tuned normally aspirated Busas out there! At the Maxton Mile, a 1507 cc all-motor Busa (no nitrous, no turbos) ran 219.94 mph, which was slightly faster than what the SVS TT Viper ran at the same event (219.0 mph). Still quite a bit slower than the turbo...

SVS heading to the Maxton Monster Mile

The shut down area is about half a mile long, so parachutes may not be a bad idea! Take pics and tell us how it goes! An in-car video of the run would be great. Drive safely, and good luck at the Mile! Could the track record (260 mph by a turbo Busa) be broken by one of the mega TT Vipers?

Any twin turbo Vipers going to the standing mile races?

Now THAT'S the car that needs to run at the Maxton Mile and/or Texas Mile! With that kind of performance, I think it can compete with (or beat?) the 260 mph #8 Turbo Busa or the 257 mph race-only AA Lakester. Will RSI be setting it up for the mile? I think that the RSI Viper vs the #8 Turbo Busa...

Any twin turbo Vipers going to the standing mile races?

Fast Freddy, I was getting my stock 01 Lightning approved to race, but it started having bad transmission slippage (and it already had all the other "issues", such as flaking rotors, loose plugs, leaky head gaskets, excess oil consumption), so I decided to sell it instead of destroying it while...

Any twin turbo Vipers going to the standing mile races?

Hey Fast Freddy, According to this website, it's 171 feet Goliad I think you would have a blast running your cars and motorcycles in these events, since you're a true speed-freak! What do you think your bikes would do in a standing mile? At Maxton, some of the riders say that stopping is...

Any twin turbo Vipers going to the standing mile races?

The first one this year is March 25-26, and the later one is October 28-29. They will be held in Goliad, TX. I think it would be great if you could bring a twin-turbo Viper to the event! Time to show those turbo Busas who's boss! (As far as I know, the record-holding 250+ mph Busa is street...

Any twin turbo Vipers going to the standing mile races?

Thanks for the pic! That SRT looks sharp. Do you know if it will compete, especially in the Texas Mile, since I'm guessing the car is from Houston, which isn't very far from the event? Does anyone know if the big guys, like Chad Williams and Castellano, will compete?

    Never thought???

The 502 Boss Hoss is a serious bike! I got to ride one (when I was shopping around for a cruiser bike), and it was crazy. Too much power, not enough traction. It rides okay; just never let it tip over too much, and don't speed on curvy mountain roads! I love the sound of those open...

Any twin turbo Vipers going to the standing mile races?

The 2006 standing mile races are scheduled for March 25-26 (for the Texas Mile) and April 1-2 (Maxton Mile). The overall record for Maxton is a Turbo Busa at 260.288 mph (Oct 05), and the overall record for the Texas Mile is an AA Blown Fuel Lakester at 257.117 mph (Oct 04). The fastest bike at...

Upper HP limits for twin turbo Vipers?

With the recent dramatic power increases seen in the twin turbo Vipers, does anyone have a guess regarding how much power a fully built, no-holds barred (but still streetable) twin turbo Viper engine could make? We've already seen 2000 horsepower, and they've made it look so effortless! What do...
