2004 with balky trans

as the weather is getting colder the tranny is getting problematic. hard to get into reverse first thing in the morning. once the weather warms up, later in he day, no problems.
dealership is giving the worst case scenario, talking tearing the whole thing down.
couldn't it be something simple, like oil or linkage?

I'm not expert here, but I've had this problem with a few cars (not vipers) in the past, check gear oil and slave cylinder (try pumping clutch twice before putting it into 1st or reverse, see if it goes into gear easier)
