According to the Sylvania website there Silverstar Halogen head and foglights are very close in brightness to the HIDs @ 4000 kelvins and are super white...Standard halogens come in @ 3000 kelvins. Has anyone tried them here that can comment on them...the comparison pics are pretty impressive...Would love to go HIDs, but I do not drive the car much especially at night and cant justify the added expense of the HIDs...Thanks...AL....

I put the silverstars in the headlights before the one lap of america in 2003. Night and day difference between them and the lamps that came with the car. After that I put them in all my vehicles. Haven't tried the fog lights, but then I don't use them much. Best $37 bucks I spent on the Viper.

I have them on all my cars including the Viper. Much better light output and less yellow than stock halogens. So, for the price, definitely a worthwhile upgrade. With that said, they pale in comparison to true HIDS.

I have Silverstars on my Z. I love 'em. Definately a good alternative to those that dont want to spend the $$ on HID's. I'm contimplating on doing the same for my Viper :) .

They are not HIDs, but a very high intensity halogen bulb that are much brighter and whiter than stock halogens...looks like a set of head and fogs run around 90.00 compared to 600.00 for HIDs..The Sylvania website has before and after pics with the Silverstars...AL..

I installed the Sylvania Silverstar head and fogs...it really looks a lot better than the stock bulbs...the stock bulb beam looks yellow and the Silverstars are pure white with a hint of blue...they may not be as good as HIDs but a great improvement over stock...80.00 well spent...AL... :2tu:

Thanks. Another question for you all. I read this review on Amazon.com. Have you experienced a short lifespan as well?

I purchased a pair of these in March 2005 for my 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser. One bulb had finally burned out after over 10 years in service. I loved the bright white color and illumniation of the new SilverStars. However, in December 2005 one of them burned out. I figured I just had a defective bulb and replaced with another SilverStar. A week later, the other one burned out. I checked the company web site and the FAQ says that the bulbs have "a life span of up to one year". So expect to replace frequently at $40/pair.

I have them on one of my cars and my left headlight went out after 2.5 years. They definately look nicer from the outside... from the inside, the difference wasn't huge, but still noticeable.

One year is what they say and if you get one year than be happy.

Now lets see here, you own a Viper but don't want to shell out a few bucks a year on some bulbs? Come on now.........

Al, $600.00 for HID's? Is that how much they cost? now I know why you went the other way.
Where did you pick up the Silverstars?

I have them installed in my fogs. They are much better than the OEM bulbs. They aren't as good as HID's, but they do look and work nice. I already had HID headlights.

I have the Silverstar Halogen headlights and foglights, and no doubt they are brighter. However I have not only seen Viprvenm's HID's on his supercharged GTS. I have DRIVEN his supercharged, HID lighted GTS at night. And the comparison is like this........

Jason's Viper lights up the night like a lightening bolt in the middle of Nebraska on a dark winter night. Mine, in comparison, is like cupping both hands over a flickering candle in the wind. :usa:

That's about all I have to say about that.

Hey Bat,
let me make a correction, it was Advanced Auto, not Autozone. Sorry about the confusion. I had to go look at the receipt to be sure. :smirk:

My part number for the headlight is 9006st. What is the difference between the 05 and 06?
I think the 9006 bulbs are for the later model gen 2 cars. 9005 for earlier model gen 2s...Al...

Kwkshift, how do the HIDs look with the Silverstars... Do they match up close??? I was thinking of doing the HIDS for the headlamps only...What Kelvin rating do you think is best......to cheap to do them both...Al...

I must agree... this is the second vehicle I have installed both true HID heads/fogs and it is an unbelievable difference. Worth the money if not only for the look, but for the safety. :2tu:
