bearing noise in transmission?

Just got my 96 GTS home today.It makes a crunch, crunch ,crunch noise coming down from 20mph to stop.I can feel it slightly in the shifter.I posted it on general questions but I figure I'd put it here too.Thanks for any help!!

It happens with clutch out or in ,and transmission can be in gear or in neutral.The noise is does not change by applying or staying off the brake.It seems to be coming from the trans. or rear end.Vipers dont have a driveshaft carrier bearing ,do they?
I'm going to put it up on my lift tommorow but I figured I'd get a headstart here by posting it.The noise seems to corespond with each rotation of the driveshaft or wheel.

Take a good look at and feel the U-joints. Look for any slop.
