Hi all,
Hopefully someone can help, I have a gen1 95 Viper.
I purchased a full pdf manual for the car, because I specifically need details on seatbelts function, install etc. But the manual i have (factory manulas 1408 pages) makes no reference to seatbelts?

I need details on the function of the emergency locking, and certification if possible, I need to demonstrate that they are locking etc.

If someone has exploded images of the seatbelt system and any technical specifications would be awesome.

I need it for my engineer in Australia to Hopefully be able to use the factory seatbelts and not have to change them over.

TIA

So what specifically are the seatbelts required to do in Australia? I have a Gen II 96 (not sure if its the same system) and I can run some tests.

If the 96 is not the same, maybe someone with a 95 can run the test for you to see if yours are functioning properly.

Its not a straight forward as it could be:

I am in a state that uses government testing facility so they test to the absolute latter and because my car is not registered yet i cant road test for function;

The requirement requires that in a rapid deceleration or accident that the seatbelts lock (there are a lot of specifics for this) but essentially the test they do is one hard pull on the seatbelt and it should lock. However they don regardless of how hard you tug on them.

I'm told this may be because the seatbelts are a ramped pendulum lock belt that requires the car in motion and hard break and pull on the belt and it should lock up.

But i cant find any drawings or details on the operation and function of the seatbelts anywhere.

If i can prove that they do function with lock out i might be able to avoid installing new seatbelts, The new ones will go from a duel retractor to a single retractor, removing the bottom retractor and installing a single one full loop belt in each door, will retain the same mounts etc but will be one belt with centrifugal lock out.

Bottom line is im trying to save a $1500 upgrade i didn't expect.

Has this been confirmed that the 95 acts this way by Design OR are yours not functioning properly by Someone with the same year?

You will not find drawings for it.

Just take the car out in your neighborhood for a quick spin and try the test.

I have a Gen1 94. Close enough to yours OP. I wasn't required to do this in my state, but given that it's really the only actual safety system in the car, wanted to test it when I got it 3 years ago. Did the pull test and it didn't lock no matter how rapidly I shock-pulled it. Did an on the move test by myself, still no luck, since instinctively the driver compensates when initiating the rapid lock themselves. Had a responsible passenger and then initiated a rapid stop unannounced, and sure enough it locked solid on the passenger side. So I can at least be confident that the passenger side locks in an emergency braking situation. The driver side does probably as well, but I couldn't simulate it.

I have the printed version of the manual. Found the disassembly instructions and snapped a few photos for you.

Does the manual have an "about" section somewhere around the disassembly/assembly instructions? My gen 3 manually is really good about explaining the systems on the car and has something like that:
You must be registered for see images attach

Didn't know if the earlier manuals had details like this or not. My mom has a 94 manual, but it's a paper copy and not something I have access to right this second to check myself.

Found more stuff after properly searching the manual.

Continued. Not all may be relevant to the restraint itself, but for chimes and stuff.

The locking solenoid part is interesting. I suppose it's always possible that it's stuck in the "unlocked" position, so certainly something to check at least.
