Red vs. Blue LED?

Wow! I like it! I’m trying to decide between the red and blue LED. If the blue is just as good, then that’s the one I think I want since my redline/rev limiter light is already red and I wouldn’t want to cause any confusion between the two in my peripheral.

So why is the red LED so popular here? Is it just a personal preference for red? Or is it a serious practical concern like that the fact that the red is half again as luminous as the blue (21K vs. 14K mcd) and people don’t think the blue will be visible enough, or because blue is a “brighter” and “hotter” color and might negatively affect one’s irises resulting in more temporary night blindness?

Is red-over-blue a personal preference or a practical concern?

Red is the brightest. Blue is 2/3 as bright. Personal choice, because red is REALLY FREAKIN' bright :) I'm sure blue would be OK, but I have a red car, so I chose red lights :)

* Blue: 2000 mcd per led, for a total intensity of 14,000 mcd

* Ultra Bright Red: 3000 mcd per led, for a total intensity of 21,000 mcd
*

* Yellow: 1200 mcd per led, for a total intensity of 8,400 mcd
*
* Green: 300 mcd per led, for a total intensity of 2,100 mcd

Thanks guys, I figured that a switch could be put in. You're right that the light shouldn't come on that often, but for certain nervous passengers (wife) I might want to have complete control!!

Most of the first batch of 20 lights have been shipped out today (with the rest going tomorrow or Monday). I know a lot of you have requested tracking numbers, but since it's going out Priority Mail, you'll get the package before the tracking number even kicks in.

If you REALLY want a tracking number, email me and I'll get you one. Otherwise, just wait patiently, and you'll have your light in 2-3 days :)

A while back was 3 days ago :) So yes, it's still backordered ;) The vendor doesn't know when he'll get new tubes. Let me know if you want to order a different color, as I don't think it will be available by the time this group buy expires. The light intensity tables are buried somewhere in this thread a few times...

Yes, you missed it :) $75 for the red light, $100 for the blue light. I velcroed it to my steering column. Wires are running into the dash, down to the fuse box for power, and the tach wire goes into the firewall and over to the PCM.
