People say not much. You need to shift one extra time with the 3.55 and that seems to be the problem.

I changed to 3.55 on my 94. it's a good thing I think. It brings 6th into play at reasonable speeds and gives more punch off the line.

I did need to put on some Khoumo sticky tires.

I used Unitrax gears installed locally.

Depends on a LOT of things, but mainly how good a driver you are.

3:55 on a stocker is a good mod, but maybe NOT the best choice on 550HP+ due to harder to hook up. Wheelspin. (Choose 3.33?) The acceleration once hooked up is LOTS faster, but on the 1/4 mile, YOU might see only a tenth.

Guys with +75 HP say they have to shift 3:55 at 1310 feet. They prefer 3:45 gears, but give up some street performance. Do you LIVE at the track? Dont pick your gear ratio just FOR the track! The all-around street performance or 3:55 under 525HP is fantastic......best Bang4Buck available.

Rob Logsdon, new OR VCA prez, is an accomplished drag racer, with a 6 sec blown vette. He can drive his 2001 GTS CONSISTENTLY at 11.8 with stock motor, tubes/filters, stock Pilots, Corsa, and he has only 3:55 and AL flywheel (and now a rollbar!) The FW helps cancel wheelspin issues. I saw Rob (9/03) do 11.8s on 3 consecutive runs, and his 0-60ft was 1.67 on all 3 runs. EXACT to the hundredth. 1.67 exact. Stock tires. Amazing.

That's not true Joe, I had 3.54s and when I raced with others with 3.07s they said they hit the rev limiter in 3rd before the finish line.

3.55s are harder to hook up (on street tires) at the track.
And if you have drag radials and 600RWHP at the track you will have to shift into 5th.

But for driving around town they feel great.

My Gen 1 with 3.07's could go thru the 1/4 mile at 12.50's in 3rd gear

My Gen 2 will not make it thru the 1/4 mile in 3rd with 3.07's

Thus, 3.55's on a Gen 1 would cause one extra shift (e.g., 3rd to 4th)
