While her life began several years earlier, Mistress’s true story begins on July 19, 2002 when a young couple from the Richmond VA area rented her for their wedding. A faulty gas pump and ultra hot exhaust lead to an unhappy ending:

I was in negotiations to buy MadMaxx’s 96 White/Blue RT when he decided not to sell at the last minute. I reinvested my assets and returned to the market. That’s when I came across the above post and immediately recognized the car. Like a first kiss you never, ever forget the very first GTS you laid eyes on. I made a hot call to the owner (Zoomie) to see if he was alright (mentally and physically.) He told me the horrible story you see above and made slight mention that MD law prevented him from using the car as a rental once it’s been totaled I didn’t think much about at the time, but a few months later I talked with him again. Turns out the body repair guy maximized the damage in a vain attempt to sweep the car up for himself and the insurance company totaled the vehicle. With no money to keep a second car and no ability to legally use it, the GTS was put on the market. He ended up with two buyers – one who wanted to part it out, the other who wanted to restore it. He decided to go with the lower offer that kept the car on the road.
As such on a very wintery, icy night in February the wife and I drove out to MD and drove the new baby home:

When I got home the repairs began almost immediately with a call to JonB. Jon was the first and most used vendor during this entire project and I have to give him due credit for being there to help through the more difficult issues I’ve had.
Hundreds of man hours and thousands of dollars later here is the end result:
Before it’s said, my intention was not to copy a GT2, unfortunately it’s my favorite colour combo and there really isn’t much of a way to get around it. Other than the gas cap and exhaust, every single piece used is either OEM or an OEM replica.
There are tons of pictures to post and dozens of people whom I need to thank for their help. Once I’m sure I haven’t accidentally left anyone out I’ll post again.
