In the past it has been really difficult to make good power and pass emissions in California. We wanted to come up with a package that would pass the strict visual and tailpipe emissions and make super car power. We used our EED forced induction ready engine package and Paxton smog legal supercharger package meet this criteria.

We used a 2002 ACR for our first test. The 2002 models have the most stringent emission standards for the Gen 2 cars. We had to use a short overlap blower camshaft, to pass the miss-fire monitor, an exhaust and O2 sensors that would allow for quick 02 and catalyst warm-up and an effective sealed crankcase ventilation system.

The results were impressive. With 11-psi boost we achieved 890rwhp. The car passes California tailpipe emissions, has a lumpy idle and makes very linear power. Some other upgrades that really improved this build are our fresh air intake system and dual pusher fan upgrade.

Thanks to Greg Stocket for allowing us to do this build. We are excited about seeing it run at Mopar’s at the strip next week!

Post up the dyno sheet! Also, what kind/size injectors are you using? It looks like you're using the stock fuel system from the manifold.

Would just any smog shop be able to pass these cars? Or would we have to travel to specifically trained ones?

How long do you think the CATS will last with the increase of heat from the blower? Very nice build. I'm sure this is a god send for the CA owners.:2tu:

Thanks for the interest in this build and your questions. We started with our forced induction engine build. This consists of a forged bottom end, better rods, bearings, pistons, balancer, timing chain, blower cam, low bleed lifters, oil pump modifications, head studs and JM head work. This is a pretty good foundation for up to 900rwhp. The fuel system is upgraded with a modified tank module, external pumps, regulator and bigger fuel injectors. The exhaust is an E.O header with heat shields, factory cats and Corsa Cat back. The SC System is the off the shelf Paxton E.O legal kit with a pulley change. In order to reduce intake temperatures we added our fresh air intake system and pusher fans. Here are some power results.

The production catalysts are pretty stout, even when you double the hp of the engine. The key is to keep the air fuel ratio right so you do not overheat them. If used on the track for continues wide open throttle sessions their service life would diminish. For a track (off road) application I would delete them. The heads are production with the JM stage 3 porting. I think that the big power adder in this build was the JM blower cam and the tuning our technician Chris Jensen has developed.

I will post up some pictures of the fresh air intake and pusher fan system.

Hi Dan. Is that 890 rwhp as measured on the new dyno you described a few weeks ago that reads a bit higher than the Dynatech dynamometer most of us have had are cars tested on? If so, what would the number have been on your old dyno? Thanks in advance for your response.

We have two types of dyno's in the Shop, a Dynojet and a Dynopack. We used the Dynopack on this car which reads about 5% higher than the Dynojet. This car on the Dynajet most likely we put out about 850rwhp.
