Took advantage of warm weather today to put the top down and try out a new camera mount I got for making car videos. There's nothing special about this video - it's nowhere near the quality of the burnout one a little while back, just me with a Flip camera and a free warm afternoon!

The shots I tried are:

1. Over the shoulder, mounted on the trunk lid center (cockpit in view)
2. On the windshield (hood in view) (outside the windshield)
3. Front left fender, wheel-perspective (wheel in view)
4. Front left fender, over the wheel (only the tip of the front left fender in view)
5. Front bumper center (nothing in view but road)

Again, there's nothing really special -- there is no speeding or illegal activity. It's just me driving around looking for interesting places to mount the camera for future reference.

I thought I'd share, though. I thought it was pretty neat!

Wondered about the big hill coming into view , and realized as you got there it was just the dump --- huge mound of garbaaaajjj !

Just fun to see folks getting out with their Vipers. Spring is very, very close!!!

The big hill toward the end? NO, it's an airport! Them's backroads going around the end of the runway that's built up to, you know, be level (funny how planes are like that).

good video. Give us details on your camera setup. What type of camera. What type of mounts. etc.

Very basic. Some friends of mine had been getting GoPro-s, and well, I didn't think that kind of investment ($250+) was quite warranted yet for my skill level (at driving AND filming...)

So I've just got a basic 3 year old Flip camera that we've used off and on for a while... they're cheap and if I dropped it or ran over it it wouldn't be a huge loss:

and the mount I just got is a suction cup one by Panavise that's about $22

Also the editing was done in about 20 minutes using Windows Movie Maker for Windows 7.. free software.. Each of the angles was trimmed down from about 10+ minutes of footage to just under a minute for each.

And for whomever put the comment about the soundtrack.. sorry :) The wind noise was drowning out the sound of the car, so not much was lost there.

Great Video :2tu: Some of those roads look narrow on the video and there seems to be a hell of a lot of Ranch fencing! I bet that takes a bit of painting :omg:

Oh Nice car :2tu:

Indeed, this is the Horse Capital of the World, home to lots of thoroughbreds of both the equine and the automotive! Lots of large horse farms, and tons of fencing.

Thanks for the comments, everyone!

Beautiful viper!! I liked the 1st one best with the interior view. Camera was just a little to high up. Great to see the interior as well as the hood. Last one is a classic track view

Better quality than the earlier GoPro like I have but not as clear as the GoPro HD. Nice video. If I had open roads like that I'd be running the piss out of that car.

Cool video. Thanks for the info too.
I was thinking about buying a GoPro but already have a Flip, for filming the kiddies. Now all my problems are solved, all I need the the mounting thingie.
P.S. Your car gives me wood!

Working on uploading the "raw" footage, for those that want to see the unsoundtracked and full (read: somewhat boring) videos:

It would be cool if you recorded the same section of road with each of the angles, then edited those together using 3-5 second cuts.

I just ordered the mount for my camera. I'm more excited than a two peter'd puppy!

The key thing is to have a light weight camera that has image stabilization.

True HD cam's are just too big for the shaky viper still. :(

In the mean time I use the GoPro HD:
