New road wrecked paint. What would you do?

So the other day i got stuck driving down a road that was just chipped and tared. And i was freaking out bc i heard stones bouncing off the car like crazy. I hoped it was just under the car. But when i got home i noticed my hood has alot of very noticeable chips like at least 20 of them. And some on the bumber and fenders too. So should i call the insurance company to have the front of the car painted? But i fear that if i do that the car will no longer be 100% original and decrease my retail value. Has anyone had a scenario like this before? What should i do?

First, when you saw the chips and tar why did you continue?! I would have found another way.

Second, your going to have to have it fixed, no way around that. Call the insurance company.

I'd get it repainted. It'll be less valuable with 20 rock chips than it will be from being repainted.

Just be sure to get a reputable shop who has experience with Vipers.

I feel your pain. I can't stand tar and chipped roads. For some odd reason they like to use it here in PA. I live in the Poconos and saw fresh tar and chip in my development the other day.

I hear the pain, too... They tar and gravel roads when the road 'almost' needs to be repaved but they don't want (or don't have the budget to) do the job. Tar and pea gravel is a lot cheaper than re-paving, and it will often extend the life of the road by 5-10 years depending on the area. They did it to my road a couple of years ago, and I didn't drive my car at all that year. About the only good thing about the job they did is I convinced them to dump the excess gravel on my property - that stuff makes great driveway material. A few hours of tractor work with a front loader and box blade, and I had all new dirt roads.

When I took deliver of my 08 ACR I had the nose, fenders, rockers etc. Clear Bra'd. After 3800 miles of driving, 10 track days, etc. I do not have one paint chip and almost zero damage to the clear bra. Get the car repainted-wait 30 days for the new paint to cure, get it cleared, and drive it with little worry. Don't stress over this-its a car thats meant to be driven-and everything can be fixed! Go enjoy it while the weather is still nice!!!!

That *****. But bite the bullett, call the insurance company and have them pay to repaint it. It will still be worth more than if you run around with it like that, and look better as well. Then invest in a clear bra!

I would take pictures to document why you are having it repainted. It might still lower the resale, but if you can explain and show proof to the buyer that it was painted for this and not any type of accident, that should help a lot.

They did my roads last year and I didn't even consider taking the Viper out of the garage until I was certain the roads where free of tar/stone dust. A couple of my neighbor got tar/chips/paint chips all over their rocker covers, they filed claims with the town which ultimately payed for the damage.

Well my dad wanted to do a father son day and had plans for us to go to a few different places. We where at least 50 miles from home. And the road we traveled on we where on at least 20 miles before the chip and tar. And being so close to the destination i figured if i went slow enough it would be ok. But passing cars dont seem to care what your driving and nobody slows down.

Some of you guys are harsh man! I was coming from Monticello Motor Club a few days ago and after a exhilirating day on the track we were heading home on Rt. 17 and came across a stretch that they just milled so their was alot of loose debris, we walked the cars through as best we could but the moral is we had no choice! I feel your pain, they chip seal my road too which is a joke in itself. Get the car fixed IMO!!! good luck...

There isn't enough money out there to overlay all the roads that need it. Chip seal costs far less than half of what a hotmix overlay does. The main ideas are to improve the surface friction coefficient, keep water out of the pavement structure and in the ditches or storm sewers where it belongs. I'm in the business, and I hate my paint getting chipped too, but it pays for my Vipers.
