Oil capacity 93 viper ASAP please

Hey in the middle of an oil change, from the seaches i did people were saying 10qts.

The info on this page says 10.5 but 11.5 with oil filter


so i did 10... and now i have about 11.5 in there and it looks like it is just barely touching the end of the dipstick?

does it need more?

please help its getting dark! lol

My 2001 takes 10 quarts for an oil/filter change, EXACTLY. I always thought the earlier ones took 8 quarts... I cant imagine it taking 11.5 though... Sorry I couldnt help any more than that.

I'm pretty sure I have gotten 11 in my 95 before. Just button it up and drive it around. Check it when you get back. It's not like you are going to starve it with 11 quarts in there.

well i think it sgot 11.5 in there now, but when i check the dipstick at 10qts.. it was just reading at the bottom it appeared, "add" then i put in lik eanother quart or 2, and still at the same spot on the dipstick, not sure *** to do here.

well according to the specs on this page it says 95 is suppose to get 9.5 qt's with filter


but 92-94 = 11.5 qts with filter

You need to make sure your on perfectly flat ground when checking the oil. I know my readings vary greatly depending on how level the ground is. I ended up taking some oil out last time I changed it.

You need to take some out if that is an acurate reading. You need to stay in safe.

I believe my Viper takes a little over 10

The 11.5 was Dodge's specification out of the service manual in the capaciities section.

Tom hit it on thed head, Dodge tweaked it over time. Dipsticks are a real confunsing point on Gen I Viper's... try to buy one and you'll find a sort of catch 22.... "What dip stick do you need?" "The one for my '93" silence...... "Which one is that, loooook at all of them on the book for the same engine......"

Last change I did on mine with filter, was between 10 and 11.

Now this is getting confusing. For some crazy reason I thought keeping my oil in the safe mark was were I needed to be. Is this not correct?

1996 GTS: W/filter 8.5qts
1997-1999 RT/10&GTS 8.5qts
2000-2002 RT/10&GTS 10qts

All of the above, with stock oil pans.

To get an accurate reading on the DIP stick: After you have changed the oil & filter, start the Viper to make sure you have oil pressure and NO leaks! Then let it sit for a least one hour and then pull the DIP stick. Where ever the level is on the stick, that is your full mark!

Around where is that usually I just changed my oil don't want to start over. I will just pump some out with Jerry's penius pump.

Dont have a pump, im leaving for a long cruise at 3pm today, and i get off work at 3pm.. so i have like zero time, i need the fastest way to get a qt out, which im assuming is drain it, but im affraid ill get screwed and just be dirty.

Works good on the mower too. Just make sure you don't get the tube jammed in the dipstick tube.

OK NEW UPDATE AGAIN:

well as i said last night when i check it... i had started the engine for a couple mins, then put it on flat ground in garage and checked. it was over the safe line


Now i went home on lunch break to drain a qt or so, and when i checked it... its reading in the safe zone now? what gives? it definetly does not leak any oil.. and there is at least 11.5 qt's in there, but its all the sudden in the safe zone? thought u guys were telling me 10?
