I was reading the MotorTrend that just arrived and saw the Caddy CTS with the ZR1 and suddenly had a vision of a 'detuned' SRT10 gen 4 engine in a worthy/ top line five star sedan under 4000lbs! :drive:

Believe that if Viper changes hands a excellent business case could be made for using the V-10 in a luxury sports car, a truck, a 4 door sedan.

It is a fantastic powerplant that could set these vehicles apart from any others on the planet.

Much less expensive to produce than those V=12's from Germany, but with huge amounts of luxury torque available.

Coupled with a automatic, or manu-matic, it could produce an entire line of vehicles.

The design and tooling could even produce viable 4 & 6 cyl configurations.

The motor is the heart and soul of a vehicle. The current V-10 would be a fantastic starting point.

The only application that this V10 is "fantastic" for is the Viper, where all of its shortcomings do not matter. This engine is a fossil, based on the old LA family of engines. Unbalanced, unrefined with a terrible exhaust note.
This is a hot rod truck engine plain and simple. I could see it going into a Charger but it has no business in a high end sedan or luxury sports car.

In 1998, Chrysler showed a concept car called the "Chronos" which had a V-10 engine (not a Viper unit).

Due to the corporate mindset of Daimler Chrysler at the time, luxury and prestige cars had to stay within the Mercedes-Benz brand.

It could have been an awesome "Four Door Viper" but never went past the concept stage.

Here are a few pictures, enjoy.
