Hey guys, I needed your opinions. I have been in numerous car shows over the years and the most dreaded thing is the rugrats or shall I say hoodrats that just have to touch, lean on, and basically lay all over your car. Don't get me wrong, I love to let people look at my car and talk to them about it. Especially the kids. It is just the ones that were not raised too well that basically do not respect their own stuff much less yours that always piss me off. This is my first show wirh the Viper so I am paranoid. My brother in law told me today that I was stupid to put a $100,000 car in the local show to have "those dumba** people hang all over it. Anyway, what ideas do you guys have for "fencing" around the car that will look nice. Or maybe some kind of rope :dunno:

If I see them doing it, I simply tell them not to touch the cars. If enough people tell these kids this, maybe they will start to figure it out. Small children I can understand, but it irritates me when teenagers do it. They should know better.

Imagine the anxiety if you just built / restored the car yourself.. been thru that with my Hemi Barracuda.. all depends on the venue.. first pic is at the Walter P. Chrysler museum, no worries whatsoever.. but at a local cruise nights I rarely let it out of my sight.. Hit many shows, never had a problem though.. and I gave up worrying about it.. Don't get me wrong(!).. but I used to think it was a bit funny when people brought a car to a show that they just bought..

Believe me when I see anyone "crossing the line" I kindly tell them please don't touch. I have caught a kid one time pushing in on one of my subs in my WS6 TA! I was like hey kid, you do realize that is a $600 speaker you are playing with!:nono: Believe me I am no newbe to car shows I know how people are. My dad has several old cars that we personally did all the work to that he used to show too. He has a 1929 Dodge Coupe (streetrod), a 1932 Dodge Sedan (streetrod), and a 1938 Dodge Pickup (original). I am sorry though, no it is not "just" a car:nono: This is my baby, that I pamper and make sure stays as flawless as possible. Just because it is a new car does not mean that alot of work has not gone into it. Whether it be the car stereo, engine mods, or just hours of polishing the paint. Not to mention the blood, sweat and tears that it took to be able to afford it. :)I have seen these ropes with stands at shows. Just didn't know where to get them. I may just make some.

Do what I did at our local town auto show...I put my political signs up around the Viper (I'm running for office). That pretty much kept everyone far away from it.

I have a large laminated sign that lays on my windshield. It gets lots of laughs and gets the message through to the idiots.

WATCHES, RINGS AND BELT BUCKLES ARE NICE BUT THOSE ITEMS WILL SCRATCH THE PAINT. DO NOT TOUCH MY CAR UNLESS YOU ARE........

How about NOT putting the car in the show? Seems to me that'd be the simplest way to avoid anyone screwing with it...

Yeah I have thought about the poles getting knocked over......I would use a pole only about 2ft. tall and put them 2.5 or 3ft away from the car :2tu: I'll probably just do what I usually do and stand there all day and watch it like a hawk. Its a local show so I'll know alot of people there. I usually keep a crowd around all day anyway. ViperTony, what are you running for?

LOL, no he's not but I would definitely use him as such if he were in CT...this man can raise money and get voters to polls unfortunately he's on the wrong team. :)

Board of Ed...I won't get into it here...my blood pressure will skyrocket. :D But I will add that I did have kids come up and ask me a lot of questions about the Viper. It was great to see that same awe and excitement I had when I first saw a Viper at that age.

ELECTRIC FENCE:omg: I understand completely what you mean about your car and what it means to you.:2tu: I have not had any of my Vipers long enough to take to a show(had some vettesZR1s mostly that were showed) but I do know one thing...The people who say "Its only a car" crap doesnt do it for me.. If I want to enter a show and some little or big dirtbag messes with my pride and joy Iam going to be pissed...If something does happen to your car just PM one of the people on here that told you its only a car or its just a stock Viper:rolleyes: to pay for your damages.Get those plastic poles with some plastic chain like you mentioned and good luck in the show....Kevin

I usually show my Viper at a half dozen shows and havn't had a problem so far. If I do have a problem it will repaint. Best protection is sitting behind the car and making a lot of noise so that everyone knows I'm in guard mode.

My suggestion: Score one of those obnoxiously loud stun guns and walk around the car every few minutes and 'fire it off' into the air (don't zap anyone, or yourself).
Legal, non-lethal, loud, bright, and immediately recognizable.

Other idea:
BRIGHT posterboard (see also: WWF televised events) in orange, yellow and green with black letters saying "DO NOT TOUCH!!!"

The stanchions are debatable. You *know* there will be some clown with (3) chili dogs, (3) large sodas, and (3) funnel cakes trying to take a picture of the XYZABC beside you and he'll back up....and back up....and back up...until he trips over your stanchion, sending it WELL PAST the 2.5-3' you have it set away from the car.
Probably at a decent velocity as well.
The straps on those work great as the center of a reverse slingshot too!

If you REALLY want to keep people away, make a gigantic plexiglass box for it.
A few screws and it'll keep the car safe.
And guarantee you the Psycho Car Owner award at ANY show you go to!
(Actually, you probably wont win jack because the judges won't be able to see inside nor under the hood, but.....no fingerprints!)

Its a viper get use to it! If you didn't want people hanging all over the car you should of bought a Vette!!!
Excellent PWNAGE!

You must have bought the car to enjoy it and let other people enjoy it otherwise you would not take it to car shows. Shine the car, take it to the car shows, share the moments with the people who are in awe, let some who are overwhelmed sit in it so buddy can take a picture of them so they can brag to their friends with proof, then take the trophy from the `vettes and `stangs and go home happy.:D:D:D
