Gee is this of interest to anyone?? :D

LOL. Runner can check their data. Bet they are all Vette guys trying to find out if this was some sort of exotic factory car as there is no way a stock Viper beat their factory tuned and modified "stock" vette!

From Automobile Magazine:

"If you just shelled out $400,000 for a Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition just to brag about its 7:14 lap time around the Nürburgring, we have some bad news: A 2010 Dodge Viper ACR just went around the green hell and it beat your car. By two seconds."

I'm not so sure.
It is unimaginable to me how a car without any aero (which the Gen 5 doesn't appear to have) even at 650-675 horsepower could beat this time.
There are Euro cars with more HP not even close.

It may take the Gen 5 ACR to do it. Maybe this time will hold till the Gen 5 ACR is released.
It sure will be fun to watch though.

Do you think that there will be gen5 ACR ??

Gen1 no ACR
Gen2 ACR exist
Gen3 no ACR
Gen4 ACR exist
Gen5 ????!!??

As a pure coincidence, I was at the 'Ring for the first time 2 weeks ago and I can safely say that track familiarity is more important than ultimate raw skill. There are over 150 turns, 13+ miles, and about 1000 ft of elevation changes. My sim (GT5) time and video watching did very little to prepare me. Think Road Atlanta, Road America, Laguna Seca, Sears point all wrapped in one, nly more elvation change, more blind corners, less runoff and more turns. It is clear to me that a key to a fast lap is knowing where you can hang the car out at very high speed, as many places allow running WOT for over a kilometer at a time, but that is through blind sweepers with bumps and huge elevation changes that you need to be prepared for.

Get a turn wrong? Provided you don't leave the track and hit a guardrail, it will be at least 7+ minutes before you can try it again and you have to negotiate 150 turns to get there, with the fatigue that can come with it. Epic difficulty to learn this track.

Put the Michelin slicks on an ACR-X and be fast and brave and I bet a 7:00 flat is possible. The 599 FX did a bit under that and the lap I watched was not perfect.

That said, you'll have to have the stones to run very fast, with no real margin for error in bumpy, twisty areas at over 160 mph. The last straight that heads toward the F1 track is proably 185 mph or more in an X (drag may be an issue, as well as gearing).

If Ben can get familiar enough to make a hard record run, my hat is off to him. He certainly has the skills for a fast lap, but I like to think I do too. Despite that confidence, I'd probably want to run at least a week before I'd even consider a record run at the 'Ring, and even then I think I'd have a high risk of crashing. I am simply not qualified to run any where near record pace at the 'Ring.

The graffiti is largely from the 24 hour race fans, who have access to the track before one of the most well-attended races in the world - I am told 250,000 or so go to this race.

In Europe, road racing is a big deal, unlike the US. I wish I knew why or how to make road racing popular here. If Golf can be made exciting, why not road racing?

Let's hope a SAFE record run comes of this. I say that because during my trip there were fatalities the Sunday before and Sunday after my vist during the Touristenfahrten sessions and crashes almost every lap I drove.

Re: Dodge takes back the record!

Keep in mind this record is achieved with a fraction of what the competition is running to achieve their numbers..... I predict more seconds shaved off these times.... :headbang:

Maybe the mods could merge this thread with the 11 page one already going.

Gen5 ????!!??

Ah, but there is a reason why. We have to look into the roots of the letter ACR.

American Club Racer. The idea behind the ACR was so it was track legal. Convertables are not track legal without a top. So the idea with ACR was so that it could go to any track and race. In a pure engineering view where aerodynamics and pure funtionality are key, it makes more sense for a ACR to be a coupe.

So gen 1 - No coupe.
Gen 3 - No coupe

The question therefore becomes will the G5 be released in just vert, or coupe as well? If so, I am betting an ACR will be a year later after introduction of the coupe (whenever that is).

As a totally appropriate celebration of this spectacular victory I would suggest that Jon B of Parts rack have made up some of his traditional track stickers with updated times and have Viper Magazine include them in their next edition to be sent out to VCA members.

This could then be quickly placed on our cars to "wave the flag" in the most visual manner.

" Chrysler showed yesterday that it is still one of the premier supercars in the world as it once again holds the record for the fastest street legal production car to lap the famed Nürburgring."

Ring King indeed.

From DRIVESRT Facebook page:

A message from our CEO Ralph Gilles from Targa Newfoundland: "Hey, to the SRT team that just came back from the 'Ring... congrats!" We join Ralph in celebrating the Viper ACR's record-setting trip around the Nürburgring in just over seven minutes and 12 seconds.

Why not show the actual car that did it with the VipereXchange banner.
Are the afraid of unpaid advertising? Clowns....

Agreed 100% Jon. But the public blogs dont care. WE CARE ! ViperExchange/Ben has stepped up to help provide the best news we have had since the Gen-5 Sneak Peak. I wonder if Ben will keep the record car(s) or sell it? He already has a nice collection. Maybe BOTH cars each had records Mon and Wed? One car beat the Vette and Porsche..... the other beat the Lexus?! His donor cars both got more valuable.......

Man people are riled up across the net. I have never seen so many naysayers surface. When the LFA got the record most people were happy. When the GTR had a brief stint most people were happy. When the ZR1 had its time in the spot light everyone was happy. Both times the Viper was in the spot light most people were angry and only a few happy. What gives?

The Viper flies in the face of convention. There will always be controversy. People love to dismiss it.

I'm sorry....but what color combination was the fastest car at the Ring?
Yeah...that's right....black with silver stripes.
But we already knew it would be, right? :D

Has anyone checked the Lexus forums, or any of the exotics forums?
Should make for some interesting morning reading. :)

Quoted because it's awesome. :)
Thanks Vic!

I believe the Red one was a tic faster ;{)

Kinda thinking the same thing my friend, but I think it has to do with the monstrous meat-sausage slap to the face that the car just handed out to their competitors. It's one thing to lose - whole different story to get humiliated. Would like to think about this more, but I'm in the middle of attaching the canards and wing to my Gen 4.

The average person could read these articles and think. Big deal a dodge beat a chevy and a lexus but a ferrari or lamboghini or one of those new bugatti's could easily beat that dodge. Ironic isn't it.

SWEEEEET!

This is great news and VERY good for the brand. We should all be beaming as proud owners.

A VERY big thank you to all who made it happen.

Have to laugh at the excuses being offered up, especially by the Vette fan bois.
Suddenly Jim Mero, the ZR1 Ring driver who put up the 7:19 and has an extensive background as an engineer and race car driver AND has logged thousands of laps at the Ring...SUX.

He's the reason the ZR1 went so slow now....and just last week he was a God.
