What are some good 1/8th mile times for a fairly stock Gen II car? I know this is pretty open ended, but I was just curious as to what I could expect to run at the local strip. We only have an 1/8th mile track around here and I was thinking about trying my luck at it.

I'll just be running on Michelins. I'd guess i'll have trouble launching. Do you guys slip the clutch when you launch or do you just let it go all at once from about 2500 rpm? My buddy has a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution that he ran Friday night and ran an 8.18 at 84 mph with a 1.86 60'. I was really impressed and I want to be able to run better than that. Although the all wheel drive really helped his launch and it was probably a good night for turbo cars since it was about 55 degrees out and a fairly damp night. I also realize that the high horsepower cars like the viper really make up a lot of time on the smaller cars in the second half of the quarter mile and not at the launch. This is bad because now I'm going to get into racing and then I'm going to have to buy a supercharger. Oh no. :D

My only time out at a 1/4 mile track my 1/8th mile times were 8.0's at 90 mph - not sure if I could have done any better if I was focused on purely an 1/8 mile time?

I ran an 8.03 on stock tires. I've got a Corsa with high flow cats. Traction was my biggest problem. This was the only time I ran my viper.

The other times were much worse!!! This was my best time - launched good and hit all gears. I figure with practice I should be able to hit 8.0 or better.

OK - I went back and found my times for the first time I took my viper to the track. If I can run an 8.03 anybody can do it - first time ever on a drag strip. I didn't care about reaction time, so just ignore how long I sat at the line......

Just think what my snake could do with an experienced driver??

First run:
Reaction, 60 ft, 330 ft, 1/8 ET, 1/8 MPH
1.0053, 1.9037, 5.2710, 8.0961, 82.32
Comments: Missed third gear - tried to force third to far right - ouch.

Second run:
Reaction, 60 ft, 330 ft, 1/8 ET, 1/8 MPH
1.201, 2.0429, 5.5530, 8.632, 73.19
Comments: Missed third gear AGAIN $%^@$%@$#% - double ouch!!!.

Third run:
Reaction, 60 ft, 330 ft, 1/8 ET, 1/8 MPH
1.1676, 1.8232, 5.2388, 8.0384, 87.92
Comments: Good clean run - reaction time killed me (I actually hit 3rd gear this time!!! )

Fourth and final run:
No times, slip was missing when I went to get it but it didn't matter. Too much at the line and spun the tires real good. It would have been my slowest time.

Reaction time doesn't count towards your total time on this type of race. You could sit there for ten seconds and the elapsed time would still be the same.

Best I've done is 8.09 @ 90 in my 02 GTS. Sadly, the SRT feels MUCH quicker, but it's best in the 1/8 is 7.9 @ 93. Traction makes the difference. I can run almost anyone (except full drag cars) down by the end, just can hookup in 1st or 2nd. BFG drags are a must....too bad none will fit the SRT yet.

I've only ran once with my close to stock GTS.
With virtually no track prep done that day, I had a decent launch but starting spinning in the top of first and into second.
