if you wanna do a cam swap, talk to greg good and see what he recommends. there are much better cams available for our cars than the 708

dont buy a used cam, not worth it with all that work to get to it and get it out.....its an OEM cam, why put in stock parts ?

call tator if you really want it though. i think this is the part number:: 4763 708 but chuck will know for sure

I've thought about putting a 708 cam in my cream puff motor down the road at some point simply for a more "lumpy" sound. I have no plans to put any induction on my car. Has anybody else done this or is this a stupid reason to swap cams?

Don't know if the 708 cam alone is worth it in a creampuff engine but wouldn't valvetrain geometry change with the 708 cam meaning new pushrods? Tuning? Etc. I don't know the answer but I'm assuming the 708 cam profile is much different than the creampuff cams.

I was thought the 708 cam has the same had the same diameter but just steeper. If this is wrong then changing all the geometry probably wouldn't be worth it.

you should change the pushrods no matter what anyways. the stock pushrods are flimsy and loose lift as the rpms rise. other wise it is a drop in. the 708 has the same base circle, so it goes right in with out geometery changes. great cam, great sound and performance. i have a brand new one never used, $300 shipped for a gen2

They are basically the same cam with the only significant difference being a 6º diff in Overlap.

FYI, cam specs from the viperregristry:

Exhaust Closes - - -42.5º (96-02)
Intake Closes - - - -86.5º (96-02)
Exhaust Opens - - -82.5º (96-02)
Intake Opens - - - -23.5º (96-02)
Exhaust Duration - 305º (96-02)
Intake Duration - - 297º (96-02)
Exhaust Lift - - - .541"(96-97) .542"(98-02)
Intake Lift - - - - .541"(96-97) .542"(98-02)
Valve Overlap - - 66º (96-99) 60º (00-02)

It's exactly what the Viper needs! Sounds awesome, and you will pick up some power to boot. You do not need any induction changes. It's really a lot more dough than most people think though. New cam, pre 2000 non bleed down lifters, head gaskets, timing chain, pull the motor etc. etc. etc.............................okay if your lazy you can hang the car upside down so the lifters pull away from the lobes and just yank the trans out so the whole motor will virtually tear out of frame. But hey!, you won't have to pull the crossmember to clear the cam. Why did'nt I do my motor that way :dunno:

rpm9000, sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. Thanks for the good info and thanks for posting the old thread on this topic. Looks like this is a swap to make only when the motor is out for other reasons.
